Pohono, not again
August 10, 2013 05:35PM
The upcoming trip to Yosemite (21 days and counting) is coming together, but one days
hike remains unplanned. The Pohono Trail has been mentioned many times in this forum,
and it will probably be part of that final hike. One spot on the trail remains a mystery:
Old Inspiration Point. So, if you've been there....

1) Apparently, no official trail leads to OIP. Does reaching it involve a bear and snake
infested wasteland, or is it a fairly easy bushwhack?
2) What can be seen from OIP that can't be seen from Dewey, Stanford, etc.?
3) Since you've been there, is it worth a stop, or could the time be better used elsewhere?

My feet hate me already.

1) You will probably wish you hadn't. Unless you enjoy Manzanita.
2) Full on view of Silver Strand ... which is why I recommend spring visit... not now.
3) Probably not a question you should be asking me.

Where's wherever?

There's been a number of photos of Mt. Beautitude/Wherever Pt. ... that would lead one to there.
I would go there, I would to go Old Inspiration Pt., and I would go to Hills Pt.
All worthy destinations. Well... I'd go to Ladies Rock again too.

There's many other lookouts along Pohono that make it much nicer than what the trail affords.
And then there's Inspiration Ridge. And Illilouette Ridge... and...

Too much ?

I looked a bit at various trips to those places that I took and
my conclusion is... Mt. Beatitude is a must see. I think it's far
better than Old Inspiration Pt. and "fairly easy" to get to.
You can decide how far down you go. From there you will see
the manzanita jungle that you need to go thru if you want to get
all the way out on Old Inspiration Pt.

If you want a photo just shout. Otherwise ...

Have fun

Thank you for the sage wisdom, Chick-on. The plan was
to achieve Glacier Pt. by any aLEDGEd trail available, and
then hit the spots on Pohono. Perhaps Old Inspiration Pt.
is better left to the ages.

Ah. ok. Lemme know how that goes. Only did it with snow in the gully.
Might be a whack a doodle fun time.

For the record... here's Old Inspiration Manzanitaville from "Mt. Beatitude"
in case you haven't seen it.

Be safe whatever you do and have fun

That looks pretty bushy, but the view must be amazing. Time will tell.

17 days and counting
