SATURDAY FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR THE SOUTHERN SIERRA
FRONT, THE EASTERN SIERRA, AND WESTERN MINERAL COUNTY...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag
Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from
1 PM Thursday to 2 AM PDT Saturday. The Fire Weather Watch has
been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning.
* CHANGES...Upgraded to Red Flag Warning.
* Affected Area...Fire Zone 274 Southern Mono County, Fire Zone
421 Southern Sierra Front including Alpine, Northern Mono,
Southern Lyon and and Western Mineral Counties.
* Winds...South-southwest winds Thursday afternoon shifting to
southwest on Friday. Sustained winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up
to 40 mph possible both afternoons. Ridge winds up to 65 mph
expected during the afternoon hours each day. Winds in valleys
should weaken late Thursday evening, while ridges continue to
gust in the 70-90 mph range overnight into Friday morning.
* Humidity...5 to 13% Thursday afternoon. Moderate recoveries
overnight Thursday. 12 to 23% Friday afternoon.
* Duration...Valleys: 4 to 9 hours of critical conditions Thursday
and Friday afternoon and evening. Ridge locations will see
critical conditions through the entirety of the warning period.
* Impacts...The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can
cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first
responders can contain them.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry
vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
