$1,300 an ounce! The mines in NV produce it for about $300/oz. Not to mention many other metals (mainly silver) of value in manufacturing. It would be nice if they didn't mine with open pits, though.by Vince - General Discussion
They want to remove it from protection so it can be mined and it appears this has support of Mono citizens who need jobs. In adjacent Aurora (NV, BLM) is a large open pit working gold mine.by Vince - General Discussion

Quoteeeek QuoteVinceNot sure what you're talking about. Obviously. QuoteIf you have a camera with 28mm lens and you set up at the location above and set your camera for ISO 800 and 15 seconds you should get a photo like the above. No, that's not enough information Care to guess the focal length of the lens I used for this? I see you deleted two earlier posts of mine. Oh well. Abovby Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotedqniel I haven't been on here in a while- that's a cool photo. Too much noise reduction for my taste, but that's just because of the ISO 800 for 15 seconds on an entry DSLR, I'm sure. Also, I think when he said 28mm is meaningless perhaps he meant that he didn't know the area it was covering as in whether it was covering a compact camera sensor, 4/3s, APS-c, full-frame, medium format, etc.by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. What I like about S&T's "gallery" pages (at the back of the magazine each month, what I go to first) is they give you exposure information, in case you want to go try it yourself. I guess there's still some controversy on whether or not these are legit. But for a $45 box of glass plates (who does those anymore?) of really nice photos they're worth something a little more than that regardless. Rick Norsigian made one of the best yard sale deals ever. Ten years ago, the California painter bought two boxes of photographic plates for $45, after he bargained the owner dby Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Possibly clarkia. Here is another image of the same variety. These are cups like poppy and not spread outby Vince - General Discussion
Not either clarkia or checkermallow. This is not a bushy plant at all, it's much more vinelike, or a better description is stringy. Perhaps it isn't in full bloom, you can see unopened flowers on that particular branch. I took the photo near Stampede Reservoir along Henness Pass Road. These flowers were open Sunday 7/18 but not the previous Sunday. The flower is about half inch to three-quartersby Vince - General Discussion

My most favorite drive in the Sierra is 198 out of Visalia, up the switchbacks. NOT DOWN the switchbacks. Manual transmission, Mustang GT. First and second and sometimes third gear, drop to fourth when you see the "Entering the Giant Forest" sign and let the car purr through, roll down the windows, turn off the radio...best done in early November around 7 a.m. when ice hints at you, buby Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
