QuoteDave According to that article the CO2 in our atmosphere is increasing at the rate of 1.5ppm/year. The atmospheric concentration is around 350ppm. CO2 concentrations start having effects around 600ppm. In a few hundred years our atmosphere will be toxic. Thought to be extinct. So quit thinking. TRUCKEE (AP) — Nearly a century after they were thought to be extinct in the Sierra Nevada, a wolverine has shown up for the third year in a row in the woods north of Lake Tahoe. Scientists are doing new tests, but they believe it is the same one that a gradate student at the University of California’s Sagehen Field Station first spotted in Febrby Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. This is adjacent to Mono County in the far northwest corner of Nevada. If you haven't been there and have a chance, I suggest you visit the area, it's beautiful open country. A deal heralded as a conservation coup and a big plus for Northern Nevada's wildlife has put 23 square miles of privately owned range into the public's hands. No, eeeek, the sun angle that occurs to light the Firefall occurs only ONCE per year.by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Nice pic of the firefall a couple posts above. Lucky shot. The sun angle only occurs in Feb because of the angle of the earth's axis of rotation, which is not pointing toward the sun during the winter solstice (thus, during august there would never be a firefall even if there were water falling, which there isn't).by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. That's a real shame. I've been to the south rim of the volcano but that was in summer and that was scary enough...I wouldn't mess with standing atop a cornice up there. I wonder if he might have survived if rescue efforts had been more successful early on. A year or two ago a snowmobiler survived a cornice collapse into the crater.by Vince - General Discussion

However proper rehabilitation of the road bed will take months and lots of bottom dump asphalt haulers plus associated gravel haulers and roadbed vibrators and, well, you're talking lots and lots and lots of dump trucks for many, many monthsby Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Another fun part is this: The cables might not go up till sometime in June. So if you decided on permits in May and everything's all snowed, do you get your $1.50 back (no you won't, nor a rain check)by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
No one climbs half dome from "the north" as you say, you mean via the JMT from the east to YV. So check permits at the split between JMT and Half Dome and not at the base of the cables. Or just not check permits at all, just say you need them just in case we check.by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's just easier on the rangers, all I was thinking. Since the area between LYV and HD cables isn't really patrolled anyway, at least not till now. I've not seen a ranger between the two.by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
After seeing so many people who can barely hike across the street making it to the top of NV Falls, barely, I think checking at the HD turnoff would be the best place since it's close enough to the LYV area. Turning people back at the cables seems a bit a waste of a rangers time, unless they require permit violators to take back a pair of gloves (which would be littered later on)by Vince - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
