I camped at North Dome a few years ago (Aug. Sept.?), and after reaching the north saddle at the dome I left my wife and gear while I went the mile or so west to Lehamite Creek for water. Royal Arches Creek had a trickle that could have worked but Lehamite was running clear and cold. And it's an easy walk. Beautiful spot.by Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We were up the 'fisherman's trail' a couple weeks ago. The shuttle driver knew what we were talking about and was glad to drop us off between stops. It's a nice route. Isn't that one of the properties of granite, being a Radon source? Seems that I've read it can even be an issue with granite counter tops. I wonder if there have been any studies on exposure levels of full time Yosemite residents.by Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Blackberries....ARRRGGGHHH!!! I've twice worked to remove blackberries in Yosemite Valley on corporate 'Volunteer in Parks' weekends. Thanks for your helpful responses. And others.....Marmots can be amusing but not so helpful. Regarding "No RVs/trailers", I repeat, in the left column "General Info" it states "over 24 feet not recommended" so this would be advisory, not a regulation or prohibition. Thus my reason for seeking useful info. It is in the current issue and previous ones. I have no intby Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The Yosemite Guide, pg 16, states in the column on the left that "RVs over 24 feet are not recommended...", and the CG table on the same page says "No RVs/trailers". Does anyone have current info on the road conditions to these CGs? We have a new to us 24' RV (1 foot less than max. width) and would like to stay at Tamarack. I'm mostly a first-come kind of camper, but a new small rv in the family ptompted me to try the CG reserve site for a valley site next week. Not sure I'm navigating the site the best way. You can travel most anywhere across there, but as Chick-on said, the easiest going is along the canyon edge. You can't miss the HD trail (unless you fall into the canyon). My switchback route takes you past the spring (which was important for me), but makes the Q-domes out of the way. Chick-on's steep route goes direct to Q-dome but misses the spring. A friend of mine and his two sons did this route last year in August to celebrate his 70th birthday. I think it was 13-14 hours. I had advised them to bushwhack from the bottom of the switchbacks near the Q-Domes to the HD trail, which they did (no complaints). You could check that out on topos and Google Earth. I backpacked Tenaya L. to Q-domes and back a few days after their trip and did an earby Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

qumqats, Nope, not the springs on the HD trail. Coming down from Clouds Rest and just below the pinnacles is a set of twelve switchbacks and my old map (Topo Map of Yosemite Valley by Wilderness Press) shows springs by the 8th and 12th switchbacks coming down. The shark is near this 'world's smallest arch' , about a one foot opening. I rolled out my sleeping bag next to the arch. It was on a hike this summer during the Persiads. I started from Tenaya Lake and went over Clouds Rest and camped on the eastern Quarter Dome. The little arch is out near the point, and the shark is just out of the trees toward the western side of the QD. Awesome spot forby Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

whew, for a moment I thought you gave away the co-ords to MY secret spring. BTW isn't that spring now on the main trail and not on a spur trail? We used it a few years ago. Bridalveil Falls? I don't think so. That's the bottom of the Upper Falls, top of Lower Falls. I think both the foreground scene and background scene are fairly accurate, however he had to curve the valley so the location gives a head-on view to Royal Arches and the rest of the distant scene. So the artist's view of the distant scene is from the middle of the valley.by Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
