Weather conditions permitting (sunset NOT BLOCKED by clouds, enough snowmelt for the fall to have water), one should be able to see the "natural" firefall in all its glory the last three weeks of February. I've seen it as early as the 8th of February, and as late as March 2nd.by plawrence - General Discussion
I saw the Horsetail "firefall" in action on Presidents Day (2/19). It's been cloudy during sunset for most of February, so the days that the fall has been lit up have been relatively few. Post Edited (02-22-07 02:48)by plawrence - General Discussion
I wouldn't waste my money on booking tent cabins at Curry Village. It's the most unpleasant way to spend a night in Yosemite Valley. You get to enjoy all the inconveniences that camping (noisy neighbors, no food in cars or inside tents, no indoor plumbing) and lodging (expensive, no cooking) have to offer. If you can't find a campsite in the Valley, Housekeeping Camp located by the Merced Riveby plawrence - General Discussion
Yes, you can pick up radio stations inside Yosemite Valley, especially AM stations at night. I'm usually able to listen to all-news station KCBS 740 AM San Francisco and sports station KNBR 680 AM San Francisco from my car's radio while driving around Yosemite Valley. By the way, there is now local dialup and also broadband wireless (WIFI) Internet access available inside Yosemite Valley. So yby plawrence - General Discussion
A bit of perspective is in order here. It's not like Glacier Point is out in a middle of a bone-dry desert. I bet a whole lot more water melts each year from the snow pack that forms on top of Glacier Point each winter than the amount that leaks from the 300,000-gallon storage tank that's located above Glacier Point. I do feel sorry for the family of the rock climber that got killed during theby plawrence - General Discussion
The water levels on the Merced might still be too high in mid-July this year. But kayaking is currently permitted in Tenaya Lake. There were already a number of kayakers last weekend (6/25-26) kayaking the waters of Tenaya Lake.by plawrence - General Discussion
All of Tioga Road was officially opened today (Friday, June 24th) to all park visitors at 8:00 AM this morning.by plawrence - General Discussion
FYI... Tioga Road is currently PARTIALLY OPEN from Crane Flat to Yosemite Creek, which means there are a number of nice trailheads accessible from the opened portion of Tioga Road for day hikes. (Overnight parking is still NOT PERMITTED on any portion of Tioga Road.)by plawrence - General Discussion
<HTML>Has the Park Service given any indication if this closure is going to be for the entire winter season or if it's just temporary until the current storm passes through?</HTML>by plawrence - General Discussion
<HTML>Probably the most scary part of Glacier Point Road is the last quarter mile before the Glacier Point parking lot when you see a 70 foot long charter bus coming right at you while it tries to navigate one of the extremely narrow and tight hairpin turns near the end of the road. I think the speed limit is 10mph on that stretch of road. Other than that, it's a pretty easy mountain roadby plawrence - General Discussion
