Might be a dumb question....but you guys carry a snow shovel while camping out there? Think I need it? Just wondering due to extra weight... And again, thanks for all your help!by jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Great, thanks basilbop! In your opinion, would be easier to go from Taft Point to Dewey via the Pohono, or the other way? Our plan is to do the loop, starting from Badgers Pass>Glacier Point>Sentinel Dome>Taft Point>Dewey Point>Badger Pass (or the inverse). And another question, do you think I should be fine with Gaia GPS app and maps/compass, or its better to have a specificby jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Nice report Yang! Can't wait to get there! thanksby jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
QuoteJustKeepWalking Heck, I'm not nearly a first-timer and I use it with the winter Cross-Country ski/snowshoe maps for Badger Pass and Crane Flat in conjunction with Gaia GPS (a full-blown GPS app) and detailed USGS maps. The USGS maps don't show the winter snow course ski/snowshoe trails which don't always correspond to the trails marked on the USGS map. Would be great to do it.....I thought this trail from Dewey to GP would be closed by early february. This is a section of Pohono trail, correct? Having good navigation skills, but first time in the park, do you think it's safe to take it if not trodden? And in this case, wouldn't it be better (easier) to start from Badger Pass, do all the way to Sentinel Dome (or maybe Glacier Point), and thenby jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for the great info! This loop you did a few years ago seems fantastic, but it is doable if we do have lots of snow there?? I will have 5 full days to spend there....spending 2 days doing Dewey Point and then 3 days going to Sentinel Dome, through Glacier Point Road, do you think is a good itinerary (given it's my first time in the park)? And if I do go down to Sentinel Dome, do yoby jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
So Yang, had a good time there? Would you mind sharing your itinerary? I am going early February and still planning the route. Thanks!by jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi, I am trying to figure out how to spend the 5 days I will have in Yosemite next February (8 to 12). I know there will be lot of snow in most of the trails by this time, but I will be prepared for it (good navigation material, snowshoes, 4season tent/sleeping bag, etc,....) and am used with winter backpacking (live in Argentina and do it often). I will be there with one more person. The iby jvieiram - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
