My buddy got a wilderness permit for the May Lake trailhead. The website asked him for an exit point so he selected "Happy Isles". I am very familiar with the park and don't need a trail map to get from May Lake to the Valley but my question is "How can this be legal?" If you look at the map, the on-trail route goes straight through the Sunrise trailhead. If you diby ChrisA - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I just "won" a wilderness permit for the Glacier Point to Illilouette Creek trailhead. I've hiked many trails in the Park and been to glacier point many times but never took this trail. In this area of the park, I have only been to Ostrander lake (twice), so it is all new to me. I can pack five days of food and 10 miles is about as far as I like to hike in one day. In either direction take a minimu of 2 liters of water, three if you can at there is water only at the 1/2 way point that might be dry now. When you get to Glen Aulen, you will see that it is a pool of water with a waterfall dumping into it. It really is beautiful and worth the hike. But if you continue on another 1/4 miles there is another pool at the bottom of another waterfall and at this time of year you can cross the river there or lower down in a few spots. The area is HUGE and there is no reason to be crowded into a "by ChrisA - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
