Chloe, If you are doing roller derby and running your ankles are probably in pretty good shape for day hiking but I, like most others, will still recommend getting a pair of poles. Beautiful views, especially north where I will be in early September. I will not have time to get to that particular vantage point but may include going up to the pass on the SE side of Parsons from Ireland Lake. I can see now how easy the cross country is between Townsley and Ireland without the warped view one gets on Google Earth. I do realize the little lake on the right is not Ireland. I'm going to have to rethink this. Even an empty bear canister has food odor that could draw a bear to the car. I have to fly cross country to go hiking in Yosemite and need to bring everything with me, including my food for two separate hikes. I might just leave the small canister at home. Has anyone ever had items stolen from these public area bear boxes? This year I will be making two hikes in Yosemite and I'm taking the Bear Vault for the first and long hike plus a smaller Bear Boxer for the shorter second hike. Due to odors, whichever one is not in use will have to be left in a public bear box because it should not be left in the car. hotrod, You can still salvage that raincoat by using something like NikWax TX.Direct Spray-On. There are a number of products available that may do the trick. I've used them on the rain fly of a very old large cheap family size tent. The fly was leaking badly along the seams and it solved the problem immediately. Like all the HSC's they have the same allotment of 6 extra Meals Only Plans available each day. I suspect at TM most of these are sold as same day walk-ups. It's possible they may also be separating the cost of dinner and breakfast but only at TM (normally Meals Only includes both). QuoteKen M Regarding Permethrin: I work for several months each summer as a volunteer ranger and trail crew leader. We have to be out in bad conditions. QuoteCraig1695 Have any suggestions for the mosquitos? Avoid camping close to water or in meadows. If you don't mind chemicals then treat all your outer clothing with Permathrin before the trip. Whether you do ML to GA or a round trip from TM to GA is your call. The 8 mile trek from ML to GA may require lots of breaks for a 7 year old.
