Glad to hear you had a terrific trip. Perhaps by the time your child reaches her late teens she will be ready for through hiking the Pacific Crest Trail! It's great that she is getting introduced to this at such an early age.by tomdisco - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Ken, I'm up in Maine right now 10 miles inland from Rockland. I'm sure you have heard the old warning about being immersed in the water up here without a wetsuit: 50 degree water--50 yards from shore--50/50 chance! Jimby tomdisco - General Discussion
Steve, it sure sounds like you made the most of your trip. It's a long way for you to travel just getting to Yosemite. Glad it was such an exhilarating experience. So, how soon will you be back?by tomdisco - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I don't have depth chart info but am sure Vogelsang, Bernice, Townsley, and probably Florence are relatively deep. Gallison? Not so sure. Never seen it up close. From a distance it does not look particularly deep but I don't think it's in any danger of running dry.by tomdisco - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

You do have the option of continuing down the Ten Lakes Trail to the Ten Lakes Trailhead on Tioga Road. From there all you need to do is hitch hike to May Lake Road and then hike back up to the trailhead to your car. This is normally a 2 night trip but could easily be a 3 nighter if you are inclined to explore all around the Ten Lakes basin. Don't know how much time you have for this. As I've done before I will say again that as first timers you will get more out of seeing the essentials of Yosemite mixed w/ some day hikes than picking one trail to backpack on for 3 days. It would take 3 days to do Mariposa Grove, Glacier Point, the Valley, Tioga Road to Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows, Tioga Pass, plus at least two good day hikes,----and you will be worn out. Steve, From things I've both read and heard from others, #30 is usually the best you can do. Above that the formulas begin to change and become more of a sealant type of application that bring their own problems. SPF 15 blocks 93% of UV rays. SPF 30 blocks 97%. SPF 45 blocks 98%. You obviously don't gain much above #30. SPF 25 or 30 should be fine as long as it's a broad spectrum sunscreby tomdisco - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

If you partner and kidlet have never seen Yosemite before I recommend skipping Waterwheel in favor of some "must see" features of the park like Mariposa Grove near Wawonna and Glacier Point overlook. On the way back from Glacier point you could take in the 2.2 mile round trip trail to the top of Sentinel Dome (an easy climb) for a higher view of the valley, Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, aby tomdisco - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. snorkus, While TM may be on your list you might consider the beginning of the Lyell Canyon/Rafferty Creek trails. It's about 1.5 miles to the junction of these two trails and starts at the Tuolumne Lodge parking lot and/or the Dog Lake parking lot. It is scenic and includes a beautiful open area where the trail bridge crosses Lyell Fork with a couple of deep pools in the stream. At 1.4--1.6 mby tomdisco - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I saturate every portion of all outer clothing (not my rain jacket) about 1 week prior to flying and let it dry outdoors. They claim it lasts quite a while, even through a couple washings, but I take that with a grain of salt. Quotemtn man Interestingly enough the T-38 is a jet that can be owned and operated privately: According to the FAA there are seven privately owned T-38s in the U.S.[5] Boeing owns two T-38s, which it uses as chase planes.[5] Thornton Corporation owns three T-38s and three F-5s.[5] In addition, ILOAJP HOLDING and Wayne L.
