Thx. Looking at some of the old maps, it seems that originally Mt. Dana was outside the park? http://www.yosemite.ca.us/library/maps/yosemite_national_park_1891.jpg http://www.yosemite.ca.us/library/maps/by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Would be nicer if Yosemite got back the area lost to all the mining towards the east, that consists of Lewis, Parker, Koip, Banner, Ritter, etc. Not sure if the Inyo, Hoover, Ansel Adams areas towards the north were ever part of Yosemite (e.g. Warren/Scowden) , but they should be.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'm typically a dayhiker, so when heading out of Yosemite on 120, it's usually dark already. In fact, it's usually dark when I'm heading into the park as well. So those particular intersections I mentioned are a bit more challenging. However when it's during sunrise and sunset, the brightness of the sun can be blinding - quite dangerous when it happens on the curves. Spectacular area...all of them, really. Did you feel the spirit of Stacy Arras?by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
This reminds me of a Death Valley story from a few years back. A couple tourists rented a vehicle that wasn't built/equipped to pass through rocky terrain roads. Somehow they missed a turn, lost the road, car broke down. That was the end. There are probably many other horror stories like this in DV.by Ohnivy-Drak - General Discussion
http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/behold-a-glorious-vintage-map-of-yosemite-national-park Bottom of article has link to map where you can zoom. My favorite aspect: how it advertises Overhanging Rock. Looking at the vehicle drawings, it doesn't appear that the road around the valley was one-way yet.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yea - I made the mistake of "glimpsing" down both directions and lost my nerve. That's "the large step" I referred to a while back, which leads to the incredibly narrow ledge area. You slip, you die. Might give it another go someday.by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
That is one of the more dangerous intersections, if not the most. When making that left, there is a designated merging lane for you to use. The driver probably saw things were clear coming out of 108/Sonora, but the cars on the eastbound direction must have arrived quicker than anticipated. Hoping for the best for the children. The all-important seat belts might turn out to be the difference.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Magnificent area (Kuna). There are also quite a few unnamed lakes/tarns up there, but those probably don't count towards your boat quest? How many lakes are still remaining on your list?by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Sorry that the image(s) are so huge. I hate this douchey new google+ photos. R.I.P. Picasa. True False White, or False False White? If True, highest point or not? Who cares, just punched in the coordinates provided by ListsofJohn and headed in that direction. Close enough. For pictures with numbers, Name That Tune (Peak). Nothing difficult. Quotechicagocwright QuoteOhnivy-Drak Half Dome Village Pizza Deck. LOL. I don't care what they call it. In fact I think they should sell the naming rights and get a bunch of money for it. I would sell the naming rights to my house if someone would be willing to pay. For example everyone I know calls the big building in Chicago the Sears Tower. So I'm calling it Curry Pizza Deck! It's continuing to spread, mostly to the S, SE direction. But smoke and haze has reached as far north as San Jose. Whoever is responsible will never come out, but they should expect some karmaic balance. Better watch out for things like potted plants slipping from above.by Ohnivy-Drak - General Discussion

I've done the loop in both directions - each time starting from the valley, but never from Tamarack or Foresta TH. If you start from Tamarack, will you be spending the night in the valley? If so, you could take hiker's bus back to your car the following morning.by Ohnivy-Drak - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Fascinating story. Could it be that Stacy Arras ran away successfully? Based on the facts, unlikely. She asked her dad to join her on the hike she went missing.by Ohnivy-Drak - General Discussion
This is one of the great mysteries. Other than dropped lens cap, not a single trace of her. No piece of clothing, jewelry, camera, or fanny pack. The fatigued older guy that had been following her alerted others promptly when she didn't return. The searches were organized timely. The area is just so vast, who knows which direction she went. The mentality of the need to deface or draw on landmarks...it's just so strange. Just something that never thought of doing. Like holding animal fights for gambling - until I read about it, it's not something that entered my mind at all. I'm not saying it makes me this great person or anything.
