If you go beyond the gate and get caught, will the ranger cite you? If someone gets hurt or needs rescue, who gets billed? I guess this was all discussed in that Half Dome cables thread. But there's an actual sign and barrier at Union, right? Whereas, the cables laying on the rock is more symbolic.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

How do all of these storms affect the tremendously popular Horsetail? Increase in snowpack is good for water supply, but potential fog and cloudiness during the window are probably negatives?by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
People have done what you described. Some might have even done it in risky conditions and gotten away with it. A few individuals haven't, unfortunately. This is one of my favorite "sped-up GIF" images, courtesy of The Pink One. Coming Down Watching it, it gives a perception that the individuals are just speeding down. Our favorite Birds have been on the HD cables during the "offseason." Of course, they are exceptional. Not sure if they've done it in snowy/icy conditions. Not everything is black and white. But things can go south, for anyone. All you can do is make the best judgment as possible. I tend to be more on the conservative side.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I've seen the cam at the Majestic Meadow. Haven't been there in awhile, so memory a bit hazy. The cam is on top of the front door to one of the houses? I've tried sneaking in some silly creatures at Sentinel, but I think my attempts failed. JKW, you are simply incredible. Major kudos and congrats, not just for completing your quest. But in the timeframe that it was done. In "Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite," my favorite part is in the Drowning chapter. Details about a rescue/recovery involving Bridalveil Creek and Fall. I can't help but chuckle, no disrespect meant.by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Unfortunate news. Looking at the map, he wasn't too far away from the trail. There is a some type of waterfall at the junction. Maybe something happened while trying to get a better (closer) view. The water might have been roaring. https://mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=36.541812,-118.720343&z=16&t=t4by Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Nice shots, Ansel! Reminds me of the time I completed the CCW Yose-ElCap-Rockslides loop. It was night time, and had to walk an additional 2 miles or so back to the parking. It looks like the weather will hold up for the next couple of weeks or so. Don't see any precipitation or storms on the horizon. From the webcam, Yosemite Falls is really going. But it would be really interesting to see what the recent storms have done for ones like Ribbon, Sentinel, etc. The storm from Oct 15 weekend got the Tuolumne River roaring again when I went the following weekend. There were also cascades coming down from Cathedral Lakes area into Tenaya. Spectacular stuff...with luck, Tioga will timely open agby Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I went this past weekend, started & went behind Pothole. There are nice use trails that take you to the first footbridge so that you don't need to cross the river, if you don't feel like it. But there was more water than expected. Not as high and powerful as during spring, but the waterfalls looked to be at least 75% of max. During my trip into the park this past weekend, I made a rare visit to the valley. Though things were signed properly, it was still a bit strange and un-nerving that there was two-way traffic on both sides of the valley (North and South Drives). Luckily, traffic wasn't that heavy (got there early evening, 6PMish). Thus the two-way traffic and several detours. But it's the right time of year toby Ohnivy-Drak - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
