Nice Quotechick-on Awesome shot of the Clark Range. I've gone out the backroads a few times in search of the elusive Turlock shot. Took my wife that-a-way once. Anyone have favorite food stop suggestions on/near route 140? Last year we had a great lunch on the way in from the Bay Area at H&W Drive-in in Merced. Great burgers (and fries!) On the way out and going home from Yose we stopped at a diner for a late breakfast in Mariposa and that was only so-so. Would be great to hear your suggestions.by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Sure. Always interested in new routes. This trip I can not leave the bay Area until 11:00 AM, so have limited time on the road prior to sundown.by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Is there still a temporary one-lane bridge crossing the Merced River along route 140? It was near a rock slide. If so, should I expect a backup there on a Friday afternoon this time of year? Coming from the Bay Area. Enjoyed taking that route last winter, vs via 120. No traffic to speak of that time.by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Agree. Quoteplawrence Deer mice are everywhere in Yosemite and they're still active in winter. (They don't hibernate.) But it's still very rare to catch Hantavirus in Yosemite, so unless one spots mice activity in their tent cabin (or other type of lodging at Yosemite), I wouldn't worry too much about it. At Curry in January, I would be far, far more worried about slipping on black iceby Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We hiked from Merced HSC to the Valley in one day two summers ago. We had 20 pound backpacks. It was a long day, but a very beautiful hike down. I can't imagine adding the detour over to HD and back that same day. Is it possible? Sure, but I think you would be too focused on checking off boxes rather than taking in the beauty.
