Quotewherever Quoteryanmj Wondering if you've tried gunsight and why exactly you advise against the death slabs? ( seems like a silly question with a name like that) Exposure, tough route finding, rock falls ect. I've been considering the slabs than going right to diving board Yes, I've done the Gunsight. (I assume you mean the one by Lower Cathedral Rock.) In 1963 it was my first climb in Yby ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Great pictures as usual. Planning a day hike from Tamarack Flat to the Valley, deciding if this little side trek is worth it. Any water sources between Tamarack Flat and Yosemite creek that may be useful in about a week and a half?by ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

very doable. 1 point on that trail about 1/3-1/2 way to north dome the trail splits, when i was up there a few years ago there was no sign. Right went straight to Yos. Falls left when to N.Dome.This isnt the first split in the trail btw Take the extra 20min to stop by indian arch.by ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I've also gone from toulumne to clouds rest and down to the Valley though I didn't go up hd. I would suggest staying on top of the saddle between clouds rest and hd but it may be a bad idea at night.by ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I did this last year from the valley, left at 1am and went up the jmt instead of the mist trail due to the water levels. I think I got to the cables around 5 but some of the hikers I was with we're a little slow. It was light but I made it to the summit in time to see the sun rise. I have permits for the 3rd of July this year but plan on watching the sunset from the top this time.by ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteAnotherDave As a non-climber, I can only admire the talents of Alex and the other big wall climbers. He recently climbed Mt. Watkins, El Cap and Half Dome....IN THE SAME DAY! Quotechick-on A week late... again... Berry Kewl. And thanks for making me have to go find that darn sign now! Tanks for Sharon think its right before it drops down into the polished granite area. I always follow the outlet but ive heard its easier (not that its hard) to follow the sunrise trail for about a mile than cut across. Quotechick-on (again) From what I have been told the Gully used to be the de facto way for climbers to come back down from El Cap. My understanding is that it is rarely taken anymore since there is a simpler route down the eastern slope with a rappel. Something like that el cap gully. you up for it?by ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotehotrod4x5 I have this one. Works well, but I cannot speak to its longevity, because although I have had it 7 or 8 years, I haven't used it that much and I have the older, white version. http://www.rei.com/product/617913/msr-sweetwater-water-filter this gets my vote, had mine for years as wellby ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Planning a hike this summer, possibly going from the trail head on Big Oak Flat Road across the top of El Cap and down Yosemite falls. QuoteAtaim QuoteCalaveras . Just curious, why do you want to photograph the moon from North Dome? On May 30 and June 1 the near full moon will rise just to the left of half dome. If you wait until the 100% full moon it will too bright to have any detail in the shadows. Generally it is better if moon shots are taken a least one day BEFORE the full moon, or the day after the full moon in the moby ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
