QuoteJamesMacWill I be able to stay at LYV the night before we go up the cables with the same permit? Now, you need a separate wilderness permit for that. And the ones that allow you to stay the first night in LYV are very popular. Here is a link to the wilderness permit page. It has a link to the trail heads full report. My wife has gone with me before. However, she isn't into hiking all that much, she just loves the outdoors. It just means I need easier trips. And I carry as much as possible. It helps me get more of the trip I want.by Hitech - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quotechick-on Feel free to jingle. I'm always looking for new blood. Please be aware that it's really been fall hiking so far... near record temps for most of the year. Quoteplawrence Quoteparklover Over easy to me means that the yolks are cooked to the point where they are a thicker liquid than when they are raw. But that's an incorrect interpretation of the term as understood by most other people, including most cooks. Quoteplawrence I never called them dippy eggs (being a California native), but I usually order my fried eggs "over easy" for the exact same reason: to dip my toast in the runny egg yolks. Same here, on all accounts. Before I met my wife I though the toast dip was a family thing. Quoteplawrence Here's the pretty thorough list from Wikipedia about what each term means in the USA (and Canada) in regards to ordering a fried egg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_egg#United_States_and_Canada . Quoteparkloverwe ordered eggs over easy and only the whites were cooked enough and the yolk was slimy and running all over the plate. BTW, in an over easy egg the yolk is not cooked. It is supposed to be liquid. That's the way I like them and it can be hard to get cooked correctly. Sounds like you got a perfectly cooked over easy egg.by Hitech - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. There were WAY to many people when I went to have a chance of seeing a bear. That would have been cool. It was 25 degrees at night (the second night) and around 28 at day break, As soon as the sun started going down the temp would drop almost immediately to 30, then slowly drop from there. Things sure look different up there now! There is NO snow or ice until after the top of the trail. I was in shorts until the sun started going down. Thanks Chick-on for the advice. This was my first winter backpacking trip and my first solo trip. I learned a lot and I am glad I went. I learned that when it’s dark, I’m tired and hungry and have my headlamp on low flood instead of high spot I suck at route finding! Okay, seems like Hetch Hetchy gets too dark too early. Anyone know what the trail up Yosemite Falls is like now? I want a relatively short mileage winter trip. Tanks Chick-On. Any better suggestion(s) for a quick winter test run? I'd like to keep the miles low so that if something goes wrong I can easily bail. If I end up freezing half the night I can just walk back to the car. Thanks again.by Hitech - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
If I can talk the wife into it (she broke her ankle and isn't exactly self-sufficient) I am going to try and make a quick 2 night (Fri-Sun 24-26) winter trip. It is my first winter trip. So, I'd like something easy as far as conditions go. Certainly no snow shoes and no crampons. I'd like something not requiring any more than boots. Putting the web page up stating that the site was down was COMPLETELY unnecessary. It had NOTHING to with not having staff to manage the server. The ONLY thing it accomplished was to deny the public access to the information there. It took MORE resources to change it. Although not a crucial question, I have been the one asking before. We came upon a stream that we needed to cross just as someone else had finished crossing from the other side. I ask how it was. I over carried water also. My wife CONSTANTLY drinks water when not hiking. Her biggest worry was that she would run out. She never had less than 2 liters, except for the last mile or sow coming back from half dome. We were there in a high snow year so there were plenty of small streams.
