A lot of people get turned off by 3D because some things don't take good advantage of the format. These kinds of things are great. They really show what the terrain is like and are very useful as 3D maps.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Stayed in Murren about 8 years ago. Definitely want to go back to the Swiss Alps, if I can, not go to Yosemite. Really great hiking from Engelburg to Surrenpass. It's a bit different with lots of cows on some trails and hiking several miles and finding a restaurant or mountain hut, but like the Sierra you can find isolation by hiking a little bit further.by yosemitejim - General Discussion
Quotechick-on Wife and I hiked quite a bit in SW Yellowstone looking all around for Moose. No such luck. Then when we went to Glacier we saw Mrs. Moose in a lake diving and eating. Must have watched her for an hour. Is majestic the right word for them? That was 5 years ago. Have a really hard time not going to Yosemite nowadays. Room with a view for a tank of gas for as many nights as I cby yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
No mosquitoes at all. Looks like some bugs were bothering that moose, the way she was flopping her ears around though.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This was up in Cascade Canyon near the forks junction. We kept our distance. This was shot with a ton of zoom.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I thought that this was where has the missing chick-on been, instead of where have we been. Here is a moose that I saw in the Grand Tetons last month.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We missed you chick-on. You probably got burned out on this site doing over 3000 posts in 2 years. You also get frustrated with all of the lame-os who never post anything. Sounds like you have still been doing a lot of exploring out there. I appreciate all of the info that you have shared in the past. Best wishes.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Wind wasn't too bad. I think that the camera microphone makes it sound worse than it was. Was just a strong breeze. Had heavier wind at the westernmost Gaylor Lake a few days later. Went up there from mile marker 34 on HWY 120.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

A short walk up the front of Lembert Dome has a great view. Cathedral Lakes is always great, but may be considered more of a moderate hike at 7 or 8 miles round trip. Elizabeth Lake is fairly short and nice. May Lake is very short and has great views.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was suprised that there were a few large ice fields lower on the north slope. One was quite large, and it was hard frozen ice.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I was aiming for a low point on the saddle, but ran into a steep slope of wet sand and thick ice. I was so close to the top, but would have needed crampons for the last icy bit. Had great views all around the area, and was happy with all of the great views that day.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Not much problem crossing Tenaya Lake outlet this year. This popular post talked about crossing the Tenaya Lake inlet, but photo showed high water there also. There is a large steel and wood bridge over the inlet near Pywiak Dome. I had heard about this bridge before, but had not seen it until last week. This bridge is several miles out of the way, but could be useful during high water.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Couldn't fit trekking poles in the carry on luggage. Probably can't take in carry-on anyway. Bought some cheap poles at Wal Mart on arrival. They actually had the plastic snow thingys, but forgot to put them on. Went further in the snow than expected. Snow was firm and pretty good for hiking on.by yosemitejim - General Discussion
