Yes, Wapama falls were gushing over the last bridge... wet, happy, feet!by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Just returned from a three day loop starting at the Dam up to Vernon for the first night. We started early because of the heat warnings of the day and the exposed climb. So glad we did! It was hot. The hike was pleasant, many more wildflowers than expected. Mosies were only a problem through the beehive area. The ranger told us that access to Laurel Lake was still cut off from Frog Creek high watby lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
That first number worked- thank you! I had tried that number before and it was a recording but this time it worked. Got through to the desk- Yipeeeby lilagray - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I did, it was automated and directed me to the 888 number...by lilagray - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Has anyone been able to track down direct phone numbers to the various lodging locations in the Valley now with Aramark? Specifically Yosemite Valley Lodge? I used to have the old DNC numbers but now everything online points to the 888 general number and I would like to speak to someone at the front desk. Thanks for any info!by lilagray - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hey there! We are headed there this weekend... trip report? Snow? Creek crossings? Mosies? Anything?by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Anyone hear any chatter lately about the Yosemite name litigation? I keep hoping there will be a big announcement at some point that an agreement has been met and we are back to the old names... Hi- I am interested in camping @ Tamarack Flat the first week of June... seems like on the historical chart that it does open in May/June on light (drought) years which I know this is not but I was wondering if anyone has any "sense" of this sort of thing. I notice on the official websites they always list July for openings of any campgrounds off of Tioga Rd but they actually tend to opby lilagray - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I don't think it will be too difficult in the dark... just take care and keep your eyes on the trail (easier said than done). Enjoy!by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Any strategy to going clockwise vs counter-clockwise? I am considering this loop about a week later and was thinking of going the other way... but not really sure why...by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks again folks for all of the suggestions. We got a permit and will be exploring the Southern Boundary. Have already been to the Ottoway Lakes area but will be on the other side of the pass. Lots of good ideas here- thanks again.by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Actually, I have found that it is easier to get walk ups after the JMT season ends. I have always had success in the fall out of Tuo when there is hardly a line up in the morning.by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I really enjoyed reading this trip report. I have never hiked in Death Valley but have some interest in the past and reading this made me want to move it up on my list! Thanks!by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks everyone for the great info... We dug out the maps and books this weekend and are going to shoot for the Isberg Pass, Red Peak Pass area and some of the network of lakes around there. We have been on the Ottoway Lakes side and really loved it so looking forward to exploring the Ansel Adams side. Planning to enter at "Jackass Trailhead" to reduce a little driving. Thanks again- miby lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
By "next day" do you mean walk up? If so- it is hard to plan a trip and drive many hours with the possibility that a trip will not happen. I know it is possible but it sounds like the lines are very long for walk up permits...by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Ok- My backpacking partner and I have an opportunity to "throw together" a four night trip over the 4th of July weekend and would like to do something out of Tuolumne Meadows but alas... the JMT folks have booked out all of the permits in advance. I know we can take a chance on a walk up but from what I read there are many JMT folks in line very early each day trying to secure walk upsby lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
thank you so much- this was a lot of help. I was really stumped but can see what happened now. Part of my problem is that most of the time I read YND without logging in. Since I am primarily a lurker there is not really a reason to sign in unless I plan to post something. So, the view is different if you log in and the little New flags pop up. anyway, thanks so much!by lilagray - General Discussion
Not sure where to post this question- but I have been wondering about my view of the forum. I have had several occasions when I follow a topic and when I glance at the "last post" column it says one thing and when I click into the topic I don't actually see the "last post". Is there something I am doing wrong so that I cannot see the latest post? This just happened to me onby lilagray - General Discussion
Great report- thank you. That last photo posted by chick-on is amazing! I really can't imagine packing a flotation device on a backpacking trip.. but it looks like a lot of fun. So... what are your pack weights? I see chairs too... just curious--by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Sorry plawrence- you get the thread credit. Thanks to JKW for the list!by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Just wanted to thank JKW for starting this thread. It inspired me to purchase the Black Diamond UD z Poles with my coupon. I really have needed new poles for some time since mine slip but I am sloooow to buy new gear so it was just the nudge I needed. I look forward to trying them out. Also, VERY curious to hear what JKW thinks of the new Sportiva Synthesis shoe. Went over to REI this weekendby lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Great report- thank you! That apobateman fellow really scored by running into y'all! I will keep an eye out and latch onto one of your adventures anytime- well maybe not going up the down cables... thanks for taking the time to write up the trip-by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Yes JKW- the views are sublime! We did it in reverse once as well but starting at Glacier Pt. We went down the Panorama, had dinner at the pizza deck, and then up the 4 mile at night. That was wonderful and unique. Should have built in a little more time after the pizza before climbing 4 mile though! Glad you enjoyed the report-by lilagray - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Well, this trip report took longer to complete than we planned, but better late than never right?!? What was planned many months ago as a snow shoe trip turned out to be two wonderful hiking trips out of the valley over Presidents weekend. The first day we were starting around 11 am after driving from the Bay Area, so we went out of tunnel view up to Dewey Point and back.
