I might be a little late for this, but I wrote a report about hiking into the Zion Subway from the bottom-- http://www.panamintcity.com/zion/zionsubway.htmlby SteveHall - General Discussion
Hey thanks for the report and pictures. I was thinking about hiking this on Tuesday. Do you think there will still be snow up there?by SteveHall - General Discussion
Good article. I'm very familiar with these issues and tragedies that were mentioned in the article. Glad to hear that some of the GPS companies and DV are working together to get these dangerous issues resolved. Last year, I hiked right by the exact location where the mother and son got stuck in 2009 and it certainly was in the middle of nowhere.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Thanks for the links. It was a while ago so I forgot that a picture had been shared. I'm still trying to get to this hike. I want to be in YV at the right time when waterflow over Bridalveil is at its peak.by SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Very interesting list and photographs. Thanks for sharing all these details. I've done Illilouette Gorge and Sierra Point and I'm still trying to get to Rainbow View. Does anybody have a picture of Bridalveil Falls from Rainbow View?by SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Pizza at Degnan's loft is good enough for me. Especially after a long day hiking.by SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Wow, that looks scary and fun at the same time. I have bad balance but I'm sure I could work my way across by sliding. By the way, thanks for the link earlier to the picture of Table Lake.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Hmm interesting. Maybe I should postpone until mid-July to make sure I can get across that creek. I'd hate to backpack in all that ways and find out I cannot complete the route as planned. What about swimming or wading across the creek?by SteveHall - General Discussion
Quotebill-e-g Ok. I guess I just have to assume this trip did not occur. No, it did not due to circumstances and finding another driver. But I'm fully planning this for mid-June of this year, about 4 months from now. And I'm insisting on doing the entire route all the way to HH.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Greetings, Some of you might remember me for my Trip Reports on the hikes to Sierra Point and the base of IIlilouette Falls. I recently hiked to the somewhat unknown but highly spectacular Alamere Falls in Point Reyes National Seashore with two family members. Because it was such a great hike and I figured others might enjoy learning about it, seeing pictures, and perhaps even trying the hikby SteveHall - General Discussion
That's tragic. I see crazy divers, jumpers, and handstanders everytime I go swimming there.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Hey I went swimming at the Rainbow Pool just outside of Yosemite last week and it was amazing like usual. I was just wondering... everytime I'm there I see some people doing some crazy risky jumps and dives. Has anybody ever been hurt or injured there? Or does the place have a good safety record?by SteveHall - General Discussion
What's with all the hype regarding Table Lake? It's either got to be one of the best places in Yosemite, or one of the worst places, based on everybody's comments. You're making me curious enough to make sure I go and find out for myself.by SteveHall - General Discussion
The time was mid to late July and the temperature was probably around 90F in the middle of the day. Scared the heck out of me, and I'm a seasoned hiker.by SteveHall - General Discussion
When I did the Sierra Point trail last summer, it was the closest I've ever come in Yosemite to getting nailed by a rattlesnake. I had close encounters with 3 of them actually. 2 of them were relaxing in the large boulder field you have to navigate before even picking up the trail. And the other 1 was basking in the sun directly on the trail about 1/2 way up to Sierra Point. I actually came wby SteveHall - General Discussion
Thanks so much for the tips, everyone. I had to delay going for a few weeks but now am carefully analyzing everything that has been written here.by SteveHall - General Discussion
I have a question I was hoping to get some help on. My friends and I would like to hike the Grand Cyn of the Tuolumne, dropping off one vehicle at Hetch Hetchy and hiking in from Tuolumne Meadows. The thing is that we only have 4 full days to complete the route. Does this sound reasonable? And does anybody know the accurate mileage (I see different mileage info listed on different places on tby SteveHall - General Discussion
That trip report is still on the Death Valley forum, my site is something different. Currently it is not on my personal site. When I was at the YVC last year I looked through all of their hiking guide books, and not one talked about the cross country hike through Illilouette Gorge. They all talked about the hike down from Glacier Point across the top of the fall, though. I would guess South Riby SteveHall - General Discussion
Just for the record, the hike up Illilouette Gorge was by no means easy. It was very difficult at times on our 2nd attempt (which was in early July), as we had to boulder hop across quite a few branches of the rushing creek. It would have been easy to get hurt, had we not taken our time and patiently plotted out each next move. Also, coming down we got stuck in one spot for 45 minutes but finaby SteveHall - General Discussion
Does anybody know exactly how this person died? What happened to them? I've never heard of this before.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Umm, don't bother writing down any info on the Ledge Trail, unless you have a death wish.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Thanks so much for the information. This hike has always intrigued me and I think I will check it out, but keep a safe distance and wait until the water flow is lower in the creek.by SteveHall - General Discussion
I have a question which hopefully somebody can shed some light on. I was interested in hiking to the top of Bridalveil Falls (probably cross country from either the Glacier Pt Rd or one of the trails in the area). Is this even possible and is there any kind of overlook worth checking out? Would it be safe?by SteveHall - General Discussion
Looking back, I'd have to say this was one of the best hikes of my entire life. To be able to enjoy such a beautiful spot in Yosemite with not a single person around all day was extremely special. But it also was the hardest hike I've ever done in Yosemite.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Thanks for the updates guys. I'm off to backpack tomorrow to Glen Aulin and PD Lakes for a few days. I'll see if I have time to give this a shot on Monday.by SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Very nice old maps, thanks for passing those along. So I assume this map below shows the target area I'm looking for. You mentioned regarding the starting point: "the trail starts up a little east of El Cap. near Ribbon Creek." Do you think I'll be able to spot it from my car driving slow through that area? And how long / far do you think the hike is to the lookout point or Fireplaby SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you guys so much for taking the time to put together this info about the hiking route and sharing the photos. I really appreciate this and will try to check it out a week from Monday, if at all possible. You guys are awesome!by SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Wow, great picture and great view. And there's even an old railing there? You have definitely solved my crisis as far as finding a third Yosemite Valley exclusive. I only fear it is too late in the season because there's almost no water left at Bridalveil, at least there wasn't much when I was last in Yosemite 2 weeks ago. But I could always plan this hike for next April or May, I guess. As farby SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
