Thanks for you input, I really appreciate it. Do you know where I can find some more info about the Rockslides to Rainbow View hike? I couldn't find a lot about it on the internet, but it is mentioned a few times so I know the general location. But any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd do the Ledge Trail before I did Tenaya Canyon... I don't have a death wish.. hahaby SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I just learned something new today. Most of you probably have already seen this. Yosemite Valley Place Names (1955) by Richard J. Hartesveldt says that: "SIERRA POINT was named in honor of the Sierra Club by Charles A. Bailey in 1897. He had searched for a point from which the five waterfalls (Upper and Lower Yosemite, Illilouette, Vernal and Nevada) could be seen. It was first plotted by tby SteveHall - General Discussion
Greetings, I was wondering if somebody could possibly help me. I was trying to write a series on Yosemite Valley exclusives and I have now completed 2 out of the 3. My first two (which you may have read on here) were Illilouette Gorge & Fall and Sierra Point. For the third hike, I was thinking about using the eastern route to Middle Yosemite Falls. Does anybody know anything about this rby SteveHall - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Okay, thanks for posting. I have too much respect for life to try it, I'm now 0/100. It's just that I read that other report and some fat dude was walking up the Ledge Trail so I figured how hard could it be.by SteveHall - General Discussion
I did Sierra Point last week and wrote up a trip report and posted 32 photographs from my hike if anybody cares to read it: http://www.death-valley.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20985by SteveHall - General Discussion
I may end up trying this. I read this route report and it doesn't make it sound too bad, as long as you're wearing a helmet for protection from falling rocks. I don't know, I'm 50/50 right now. http://www.summitpost.org/route/158060/ledge-trail.htmlby SteveHall - General Discussion
I finally got back up there and finished this hike all the way to the base of Illilouette Fall. A full trip report and more photos are available if you check my trip report on the Death Valley forum listed above. But here's a few pictures of this extremely difficult cross-country hike:by SteveHall - General Discussion
Does anybody know anything about the Ledge Trail which heads to Glacier Point from Curry Village? Is it still passable or is the trail closed?by SteveHall - General Discussion
Any waterfalls updates? I'm hiking to the base of Illilouette Fall on Monday or Tuesday and would like to know the current conditions of waterfalls in the parks. Thanks.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Can anybody tell me what the Indian Cave is as seen on this map?by SteveHall - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yeah, I certainly will. Heading back either this weekend or next. From studying the photograph at the top, it certainly looks like the route is passable already, so I'm gonna give it a final push. I wrote up a brief trip report with more photos on the Death Valley forum if you'd care to look at it: http://www.death-valley.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20949by SteveHall - General Discussion
Wow that's crazy. I did the Wild Cave explorer's tour last year, which was awesome and I think lasted about 5 hours-- we spent a lot of time crawling on our bellies through tight spaces.by SteveHall - General Discussion
Yes, I used the horse trail and followed it past the water tank to the first bridge, where I turned right and hiked cross country. I generally stayed close to the river. There were 6 of us. 4 stopped after going 1/2 way, and 2 of us continued as it got really steep and we had to do a lot of boulder climbing (fairly easy, just tiring). We were limited on time, so I'm going to head back in 2 weby SteveHall - General Discussion
Has anyone been up Illilouette Gorge in the last few years? We hiked it on Sunday and got to the 2/3 point but ran out of time. I'm hoping to go back in a couple of weeks and finish the hike all the way to the base of Illilouette Fall. The water level in the river was a bit high, but it looks like we could have found away around the spot where the western wall meets the river. If not, we willby SteveHall - General Discussion
