If you do the hike from the entrance gate parking lot to Gaylor Lakes I would urge you to take the detour up to the top of Gaylor Peak. From the pass, instead of going down to the valley towards the lakes, follow the ridge line to the north to the top of the peak. QuoteFrank I will be in Yosemite soon, but I am not familiar with the trailhead rules for specific wilderness permits, and so am looking for some advice and clarification. I have a permit for the Glacier point to Illilouette entry trailhead. My understanding is that this means, practically, that I must spend the first night in the Illilouette drainage. Hope they don't ruin the drive up/down the grade too much. The new guard rail will obstruct the view. I don't see how they're going to widen the road much without making large cuts into the mountain side. It's still going to be just as steep and hard on brakes going downhill. The corners will still be just as tight. All they'll be preventing is people driving off the road and tumbling doby qumqats - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
