Interesting. Report from a group last weekend for Sunrise to Clouds Rest said minimal post holing but confirmed the route finding issue. Warmer weather contribute to more postholing in that time frame? I'm going that way and then up the JMT through Cathedral Lakes area mid next week (6/23-27). If I need to rent snow shoes would be good to know now.by cjoz - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
To answer my own question, it looks like June 25th at earliest. Rafting and Tuolumne Meadows update, 6/16/10 The Rafting Rental Stand at Curry Village in Yosemite Valley is trying to open this Friday, 6/17, if conditions cooperate. They need the water to go down just a little bit and slightly warmer temperatures for their magic formula to open. If they cant open Friday it will be any day.by cjoz - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just bought some Packit Gourmet for my trip this coming week. I too was seduced by the descriptions etc. Will let you know how they taste. Surprisingly, they do pack down very well. I find that most of the BP and Mountain House prepackaged meals are so bulky the way they're freeze dried you can't flatten them down very well, even if you repackage.by cjoz - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotetomdisco Quotecjoz There is one. Check this site and call the number to see if it's running already (schedule says June 12 but you'll want to confirm): http://www.yosemitepark.com/activities_guidedbustours_tuolumnemeadows.aspx Note the departure time, though (8am-ish). QuoteDanTheMan Interesting! I would have bet money there were permits up for sale on ebay or craigslist. I have seen campsite reservations up for sale on craigslist. Good to know there won't be a huge commercial interest for HD permits when they become available. At least it makes it fair for anyone wanting to hike HD. Anybody know the demand of HD permits when they become available? Areby cjoz - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Well may be more refreshment than I need starting off. I hear the eastern/inlet side of Tenaya is generally less flooded and you can hike along the back side of the lake to avoid the deep/wide crossing directly at the TH. I'm going to scout the TH and also the Tenaya inlet the day before and see which is better. I might not mind adding a mile or so if I can avoid an icebath.by cjoz - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Yuck. Hope it clears soon. I've got a permit for June 23.by cjoz - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteBob Weaver Where exactly will the checkpoint be located? I thought I read a few months back, on the park's web site, that the permit will be required to ascend the subdome as well, and not just the cables. But the announcement above says that no permit is required up to the base of the cables. Is that where they will check for the permit, right where the cables start?
