I've never really had a problem with them, and the pizza at Curry is actually unexpectedly awesome!!!! Last week I spent a couple of days hiking in and out around Thousand Island Lake - I know many of you would avoid this due to the high traffic but it really wasn't that bad in mid/late September and the weather was beautiful except for a mid afternoon shower - I took the "High Trail" (PCT) up to the lake - since I am not in the best of shape and need to take my time, I wanted to get theby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I can't really talk about accomodations since I don't have much experience with this in Yosemite but I can say the food, with very few exceptions (maybe only one) is very subpar for the price - I wish more thought would be given to providing quality food services in what is arguably the greatest National Park on earth.by SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I will be hiking to Thousand Island Lake 3rd week of September except I am going up the PCT and coming back John Muir - I plan on just doing an overnight and flyfish Thousand Island and Garnet - Agnew Meadows to Thousand Island looks like about a 2000 foot gain and the JMT is supposed to be fairly gradual incline most of the way about 7 miles (PCT appears to immediately go up 1000 ft from Agnew aby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. We hiked it as a family 2 weeks ago and had a "relatively" great time - My youngest (nine year old daughter) made it to the top no problem at all - The only problems were that I am almost 50 and out of shape (which is a universal problem, not just for hiking) and that my wife hurt her knee coming down the trail so we had to take it really slow (she was the one exception to all of us havby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Merced Lake to Nevada Falls is gradual - long but easy hike - I did it the other way several years ago - You can stop in LYV and go up Half Dome - I believe the Wilderness Permits suffice as permits for climbing Half Dome - Don't know if LYV needs to be specifically stated on the permit thoughby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I just spent a week in Upper Pines and from the first day I noticed many sites that were way over the 6 person mark (we are a family of 5) - I don't think this is being enforced at all - As a side note, I was amazed how congested the sites were at Upper Pines (My first time) - Whenever I have camped at other places before there always seemed to be a little bit of privacy with tents at least 1by SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Didn't want my post to give the impression of indifference - The ranger I spoke with was pretty pissed off about the issue as several other rangers I had spoken to were also - They are turning people away who have purchased from scalpers - Their frustration was getting those who have essentially been ripped off by these guys (or David Tran aka Tanner) to testify and prosecute. Just spent the week in the valley and spoke with several rangers on the scalping issue (Campsites and permits) - What I was told was that they are very aware of the issue and focusing on several people (one guy in particular) - they need to have people who have purchased scalped reservations/permits and have been turned down at the Park to be willing to prosecute. Below are the traffic regulations from the national park website - It says explicitly that you should use turnouts to pull COMPLETELY out of the road to take photos, consult the park map or simply enjoy the parks scenery AND WILDLIFE - Does not make any provision to just slow to a stop in the middle of the road to enjoy the Park. Nothing new to report that we don't already know - except that the report "infers" that Craiglist is flagging campsite sales quickly - I don't really believe that - I think people on this forum are doing that - Some people paying as much as 6 times the price - $120 a night - and no detail on what exactly the Park has done to handle the problem Read here: http://www.npr.org/2011/07by SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I don't think you are being obstinate but I do think your viewpoint is naive - The issue here is common courtesy - In the examples above, people were parked in the middle of the road and going swimming - This is not even a short temporary stop to see something of interest - I would hope that buses, if they stop in the middle of the road at all would keep it very short - Rangers are required to obby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. That way these scalpers can get at least half their money back but what will really be interesting is to see how many sites now become open since the greater percentage of these cancellations will be those who got them to resell - and the park will be ahead too since they will net out more cancellation fee revenue and will most assuredly have someone retake the unreserved campsite - If cancelby SoCalCPA - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
