That is so wrong. Native Americans should be able to practice their culture without having to get a permit to do so.by parklover - General Discussion
Yes weekends are busier. Regardless when you go in the summer if you are staying outside of the park, I would go as early as you can to beat the crowds that are coming in for the day. When we were there the last weekend in June we stayed in Oakhurst and made sure we got to the entrance no later than 8:30 am. The earlier the better. This way you can drive the Valley loop to get an over view thby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My husband, son and I figure that 80-90 % of the time we go to Lower Yosemite Falls bridge, we see people on the rocks. If you look at the most recent Nature Notes which is on the moonbows, you can see time lapse of the falls and there are flashlights shining from the rocks in some of them. The only season we have not see people on the rocks is in the winter.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
rightstar76. I feel really bad for the families of the men that were swept away. It was a terrible thing to have witness and I feel sympathy towards their friends and families. However, even if the bridge was posted would that stop someone who wants to cross? I can’t tell you how many people I have seen ignore posted signs. Every time we go to the bridge at lower Yosemite Falls people areby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
A ranger once told us that it takes 12 hours for the water from the melted snow to go from the high country to the Valley. Hotrod4x5 is correct in saying the the highest is somewhere between 11 pm and 2 am. Once while we were taking some time lapsed photos from near Sentinel Bridge we watched the water rise over a few hours period of time.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the video. Would love to see the ones above Nevada. My knees can't do that kind of hiking anymore so I have to live through the pictures and videos of others.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
As someone who reads every plan that comes out, I am starting to get sensory overload because there are so many coming out at almost the same time. I will have to reread the FONSI for the Tenaya Lake plan because I can't remember anything about a boardwalk. As for using Trex material for boardwalks, I have a friend that has a place in Yosemite West who spent 5 years trying to get the company toby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the $1.50 fee for a permit for Half Dome was for administrative costs and therefore it is not like buying a ticket for a movie or plane fare where fair market price can be considered.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks again. We used to do some spin cast before we started fly fishing and found that we enjoy rivers and creeks more than lakes.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
NacciNW - we have no plans to fish on this trip because of spring river conditions. We will be in Yosemite several times this summer and into the fall. I have heard that there are several good spots in Wawona but are not sure exactly where they are. My family are fly fishing beginners. We took our first lesson in Rocky Mountain NP two years ago and last summer fished in Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Are there any good places in Yosemite for beginners who do not have waders? Is there a place near by that we can rent waders? We have our own rods. Are there local guides?by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Suggested trails in other western parks that are wheelchair accessible. I am not in a wheel chair but I have walked these trails. The parks might have other trails and you can look them up on the park’s website. In Zion NP: the Pa'rus Trail (watch for bikes), the Riverside Walk (stop at the small pool that is along the way and watch the small fish) , and the Lower Emerald Pools Trail ( couby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Avoid Memorial Day Weekend like the plague. It is the busiest weekend of the year. Two years ago on Saturday late afternoon it took us 2 hours to go from Bridalveil to Housekeeping Camp where we found a parking place. We had our bikes on the car so we took them off and biked to where we were staying because the shuttles were also stuck in traffic. My husband had to wait until 9 pm to get the cby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
