Nice shots. Pretty fish. Thanks, it's great to see what's going on up there, snow melts quick. For the record, when I meet someone who does "epics" I walk the other way, fast. I hike easy and safe and would never recommend anything else. Most epics are just poor planning plus a knucklehead trying to brag his way out of it. No, thanks.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's pretty obvious/easy once you get there. Here are some photos starting around Burro Pass: http://www.qitnl.com/v/091110/?g2_page=4 This is the "broad gully" you follow - the notch is the "low point just south of the summit" - there you hang a left and cruise to the top. I just put a GPS map at the end of the set: http://www.qitnl.com/d/28986-3/matterhorn-gps-1.jby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
A little old point and shoot, Panasonic/Lumix DMC-ZS7. Some of the long shots with full zoom, 16x, whatever that might be. I'd like to see your shots of Pyramid & Freel, they must look nice with a little snow.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I wasn't bothered by a single one last weekend, from Tioga Rd to Parker Pass, Koip Peak. Nor the weekend before at Young Lakes, Conness. Both of those areas can be pretty brutal, but a hard freeze has been knocking them down every night. Saturday I headed up to Parker Pass, a couple passes south of Tioga. Real neat area, first time I ever explored it. Nice with all the snow, had it all to myself. I went up Koip Peak and came out via Spillway & Bingaman Lakes. Some more shots here: http://www.qitnl.com/v/051813/by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
^That's a good idea. Or take the shuttle bus up to TM on Day 2, camp in the backpacker's camp there, eat a hamburger, dayhike Lembert Dome. You'll be bright and bushy tailed as you hike out to Vog on Day 3.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I posted this on the Snow Line thread: QuoteBelow the 8600 ft, there's very little snow. Plowing didn't take much work. TM Campground is pretty dry. About as snow-free as I've ever seen it on opening day. Go up another 500-1000 feet and conditions change pretty quickly. In fact, this is as much snow as I've ever seen on opening day, going back 5 odd years. It's shaping up into a nice bedby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks, guys. Yeah you got the IDs on those shots. Evelyn outlet last year was no big deal, your gonna get wet boots anyway when you are wading around all day in slush. In anticipation, I added a pair of thin neoprene diving boots to my pack, a couple of ounces, $15. They came in handy at Delaney Creek which looked about 10 foot deep where the trail crossed. If worse came to worse, I figuredby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

These are my favorites: 1) Mammoth Brewing Epic IPA 2) Sierra Nevada Pale Ale 3) Red Hook Longhammer IPA Stick them under a couple of rocks in a lake or stream and you're safe. Sometimes I'll place them as I hike and fetch them on my way back. Oh - I thought you said beer cans. Never mind.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
A few thoughts/suggestions: - Get in as many trips in as possible before you hit Yosemite, shake out your muscles and your gear. After every trip ditch a couple of items you don't need. - Your latest itinerary involves lots of climbing in and out of the Valley, which sounds pretty tiring and crowded to me. - Katy's itinerary is a good one and avoids some of those issues, cut it short if thaby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Easy, perhaps too easy. I'm hesitant to post more on the web - there's plenty of info already. These spots can get crowded in a jiffy; it's nice to preserve a little adventure. I ran up to Yosemite last weekend and took these pictures. Hadn't been there in a while thanks to injury and work. Wanted to go to Glacier Point but ran out of snow halfway and got bored. Headed towards Half Dome the next day, got turned around by thunder and rain just when it started getting fun; I'm not stupid. It was a nice trip. http://www.qitnl.com/v/032913 I might have some space atby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

You might want to spend your first night at Pines Campground right behind the Groveland ranger station. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/stanislaus/recarea/?recid=14939 It's about 10-15 minutes past the town of Groveland, roughly 3 hours from SF. If you knock out that chunk of (easy, boring) road at night (less traffic) you will be 30 minutes from the gate in the morning. It's free during the wby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Launching from Porcupine Flat is a good idea. Gives you an easy first day, mostly downhill, saves a crowded huff&puff up from the valley. Relax and acclimatize and enjoy the views. Let's get in touch via email and I'll share some more tracks and suggestions. This isn't stuff I want to publicize and argue on the Internet. Same offer applies to anybody.
