Great photos, man. I recognize a lot of that from my youth. Thanks for the flashback. My favorite part: But as I constantly tell the wife ... "Yosemite is Better". Hell yeah. Friends don't let friends move to Oregon.™by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Mountain Room is full of tossers and they water down their drinks. Curry smells like hantavirus and sweatsocks. I'd go for the Ahwahnee, myself. You pay through the teeth at any of the above, but pianoman tickling Gershwin on the ivories makes fourth down feel kinda posh. MNF is ESPN so they'll all have it. There's also the Don Goodrich memorial plaque. It was placed by his buddies at the base of the Harding route on the west face of Conness. He was killed attempting its first ascent after he pulled a loose block. He accomplished a number of FA's in the Valley and a pinnacle on Glacier Point Apron bears his name. So I wouldn't mess with that. Photo from SummitPost (huge image): http://images.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Fortunately it's not on Unicorn proper, but next door on that big stinking pile of rubble referred to as Mt Althuski. Nor is it on the "summit", so it's not in-your-face, just kinda weird, like "wtf is this doing here and why was I dumb enough to find it?" Hmm, who in the heck was Althuski?by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the info. So that explains it. I didn't find any of that last time I searched. But I dunno, that seems kinda creepy. A "Conservation Fund" which glues trash onto mountains?by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Here's some more litter, it's in YNP, but I ain't saying where. I'm down with the LNT - yeah, you know me - but I don't bother packing out scrap metal unless it's got some kinda useful shape or purpose, like an ice axe. Then I'm as green as you can be. Booty! You'd have to be a real stumble-bum to stumble upon it. Dude's got a real generic name so I couldn't google anything. 5 poiby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

+1 here. I went up to Nelson Lake for the first time a couple weeks ago, spent a couple of nights, did a loop around Reymann & 11,357. Hey man - I grew up in that area, spent my all my summers backpacking. My mom still lives up there, I'm overdue for a visit myself. You could easily hike up Hood if you wanted, the south side slog is well within your abilities. Crampons/axe for summit. I've been curious about the name of this feature as well, but something tells me "Obsidian Ridge" is just a mistake on the part of the ranger. Obsidian, Obelisk, he got confused. I doubt there's much obsidian in all that granite. I've seen a few recent instances where the name Obelisk Peak has been repurposed. Cecile Lake is pretty nice. There's one cool campsite cleared in the talus east of the lake and more up on the ridge above. The short section of class 3 between Cecile & Minaret lakes is pretty easy. It shouldn't be a dealbreaker. I don't know if this is the exact route I took but it's no harder than the video posted here: http://pika.hopto.org/Minarets_2010/aug30.htmby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
