Quotemtn man ....992 (24 hrs.) . It's not a number for emergencies. They have always eliminated the problem that I have called them about. It's the park dispatch, or more formally the Emergency Communications Center, number so it is absolutely for emergencies. It's not quite 911, that's probably why they have helped you in the past, but close. I would be very judicious in calling that numbby buster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quoteplawrence If one wants to save money on purchasing firewood for Yosemite, the most economical method is to purchase a Wood Permit from the Park Service El Portal Fiscal Office either by mail or in person. The cost of the permit is $10 per cord with a 6 cords per year limit. Quotejackolive How do other popular trails deal with this? I would say something ala Half Dome or Mt Whitney permits, which coincidentally are practically the start and end of the JMT.by buster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotejackolive I guess it's buiilding new ones is the issue. Like the half dome cables are allowed to be there because it was there since the "beginning." I don't think it necessarily is a question if they are allowed to or not, but if they want to or not. You don't need a trail to every spot in the park. I don't think it is much of an issue. I think they have the rule to prevent people from living in the park, so they need to have something on the books, but I don't think they enforce it much. I bet that I have stayed over the 14 day limit at some point in the past and I never had any issues, so I wouldn't worry about it at all.by buster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
YYosemite National Park announces that the Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120) within the park will close at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, for the park to repair damage to the road caused by a large rockslide on January 22, 2012. There is a short article about the rockslide in the SF Chronicle. The park spokesman is quoted as saying best case is two weeks and the worst two months to reopen. Seems a little optimstic to me, but at least it seems it has a high priority to get fixed. Unless something else happens, I wouldn't worry too much about access in the summer. I'm not sure we are talking about the same place. Where I/we were crossing the river in the photos I posted about is approximately 1/4 mile upstream of where the old incline crossed the river. At the base of the old incline, pretty much across from the intersection of Hwy 140 and El Portal Rd, there is a building along with a few sat dishes, but no cable crossing the river and certainly nothingby buster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
