Quoteryanmj HOw many nights out of the year do you think you sleep outdoors? isn't there a rule that if an object is left in a park for X amount of time then it gains historic value and can't be removed? I think pretty soon most of us here won't be allowed to leave the park as we've been there so long and that is a very neat photoby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I find it quite enjoyable sitting and dipping my feet into some nice water while taking a break from hiking. I may have to try the hair wash method thoughby marmot - General Discussion

they are vultures, there were actually quite a bit of them around when I visited =) It was beautiful there but I must agree with chickon =p there's no place like home, so glad to be back at the lake againby marmot - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials
Hello everyone, these will be my first photos I've contributed to this forum. Normally I would be posting photos of yosemite. However on this rare occasion, I am going with something a little different. Here are some photos of Canaveral National Seashore last week in florida. Enjoy =) Walking from the parking lot through the brush and onward to the beach! Water! Vultures! (by marmot - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials
chickon beat me to it, he is absolutely correct - it's about 30 yards away from the museum in the mariposa grove. though i'm not sure what its name may be. excellent pics, thanks for sharing. you are quite right; i never realized that the biledo trail was for horses as well. I was just looking through my folder of pictures from my last trip to biledo and came across one of my old shots of the trail marker. I guess I never paid much attention to it before the outer loop trail is nice, it definitely separates you from most other people as well during the busy season. I believe that the trail that goes from fish camp to the mariposa grove is also used for riding horses on. People are allowed to ride their horses up to wawona point, but the horses aren't allowed inside the mariposa grove itself. I haven't done that part of the trail yet myself but I assume they have to start in fish camp to take their horses up. Also I agree, it is a great idea to explore as maby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteparklover If you have looked at the plans for the 41 entrance, some of the alternatives have a parking lot, staging area and possibly a information site that will be built there to handle people wanting to go to Mariposa Grove. They want to decrease the amount of people parking in Wawona that are going to the grove and also remove parking at the grove. I must admit to you that I am a very big fan of wawona. In the merced river plan I read that they would like to replace the restrooms in the wawona gift shop parking lot (at the pioneer village history center). I would like to mention that this is something that is greatly needed. in the summer there are long lines to the current restrooms throughout the entire day. the reason is the current restby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. ah yeah just saw that, re edited my post It would help if they posted what they wanted to do or what parts of yosemite they plan on visiting if location of lodging is of significance. over the years i've spent working in Yosemite I've found that people often wish me to plan their trips for them when they arrive, rather than provide a fun suggestions on things to do or where to stay. I was originally going to go with the national geographic maps but since the Tom Harrison maps are more accurate I went with that. I ordered 1 of the yosemite national park maps (the main overview, of the whole park) and also 1 of the Hetch Hetchy maps and 1 of the Tuolumne area maps great input everyoneby marmot - General Discussion
Thank you everyone, this is exactly what I was looking for I am going to order a few of the maps you mentioned. Also I was unaware of AcmeMapper, I am definitely going to be checking that out as well. I'm looking forward to another summer of backpackingby marmot - General Discussion
Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I might be able to buy a good, detailed map of Yosemite? I specifically am looking for a map with all the hiking trails shown in it I can carry around with me in my pack. It would be a bonus if they sell them as waterproof as well (not essential but I imagine it might help maintain good condition). I do have a gps I carry for long trips bby marmot - General Discussion

i feel sad to say this but i don't think people will ever stop feeding the animals in yosemite, no matter how many warning signs are posted =( sometimes i wonder to myself if they ever consider the possible consequencesby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
the 2 mile mariposa grove road is usually not plowed. when there is heavy snow fall then the park service may plow just one of the lanes in the road leading up to the mariposa grove; that way if an emergency were to occur then an ambulance would be able to drive up to the grove (the road remains closed to all public vehicles though). i have seen the road plowed up to the vault restroom near the gby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. it is neat technology i must say. one of the guys i used to work with had a tiny solar panel that was probably 3 by 5 inches in size that had a little cord he rigged to plug into his cell phone and charge it.by marmot - General Discussion
actually north dakota got some major floods in a variety of areas throughout the state in 2011. i worked in doing some pretty major flood restoration work in the national parks and historic sites when the floods occurred in ND during 2011. one life lesson i learned is if you are going to build a house, try and build it on top of a hill if possible where it can't get floodedby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
