QuoteHalf Dome HikerDoes anyone have connections to the BLM office?! I would like to donate some money too to increase the reward. Earlier today I sent an email to the BLM office in Bishop asking if there was any way to donate money for the reward, i'm awaiting their reply.by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotebbb I'd be happy to chip in for a bigger reward for information leading to an arrest. This had to have been more than a one man operation, and it's not unheard for accomplices in this type of thing to have sudden pangs of regret. I think I would donate some funding as well if the BLM took donations for a special reward fund.by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

i might be wrong but haven't some of the state parks been closed due to lack of budget funds? How would the state parks be able to fund the management of the grand canyon? not to mention that it is a National Park and belongs to everyone; it needs to be managed by the national park service.by marmot - General Discussion

hello everyone, I am writing to get some input/ideas on a 2 day backpacking trip i'm planning on doing sometime later in the summer once the snow in the area has melted. My plan is to start at the Chilnualna falls trail head and hike up to chilnualna falls and then head east to Crescent lake and camp the night there, then retrace my steps and head back to wawona the next day. As previously mentioned, the wawona campground has a group camp site that is really nice - near a river and right next to flush restrooms that are cleaned daily. it is only used for large groups like yours. and the town of wawona is a 1/2 mile drive away and has those redwood cabins for rent - also the wawona hotel. But i'm not sure about how it works reserving the campsites in the campground.by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
here's a pretty good news article I found on it, it explains it better than I could http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700091064/Along-beloved-route-to-Yosemite-a-bridge-too-far.html I love that drive. Usually I take 41 through wawona to get into the valley but I occasionally drive through mariposa and 140 into the valley through arch rock entrance. El portal is a fun area. Quoteplawrence Quoteryanmj cool shot , anyone know the excat point they pushed the coals over? Yes, just to the left of the coals shown in that photo. yep if you visit glacier point now they have a rock wall there instead of that metal railing but it's right out on the edge of the point. it would be easier to show you in person. another cool video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Excellent post I have heard of the bear bells, i might try wearing those next time I hike to ostrander lake - i wasnt paying much attention while walking and when i looked up i saw a nice full grown bear about 40 feet away on the trail. I think I read somewhere that the bear spray isn't allowed in yosemite for some reason - could anyone confirm this?by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotembear Thanks for sharing the pic; that must have been amazing for your mom to see live. I'd guess most people here have seen this, but for those who haven't, here's an episode of California's Gold with Huell Howser (miss that show like hell since moving out of California) explaining the firefall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXsA7E21ErQ love that video I remember working at glacby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. The ranger was just trying to help enforce the rule of walking pets on leashes but the person wouldn't cooperate and escalated the situation I've seen pets off leash chase animals in yosemite causing disturbances so the rule is reasonableby marmot - General Discussion
