Here ya go... “There are more hippies than bears in Yosemite National Park.” —Los Angeles Times, July 17, 1968 By the summer of 1970, Yosemite Valley’s Stoneman Meadow had become a favorite hangout for the counterculture crowd to drink, smoke, socialize, and play music. Going into the 4th of July weekend, the Park Service was on high alert. A tense Memorial Day weekend confrontaby troutwild - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

This may be old news to some but it absolutely blows my mind! I can't help but contemplate this happening sometime on the many granite sites I've pitched a tent! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAZ1V_DJKV8&list=UU6Kpv36LLujy-bUZKuQfXFgby troutwild - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Underneath the dammed SCE Tioga Lake we see from Hwy 120 at the top of Lee Vining Canyon lies the much smaller, original, natural glacial Tioga Lake. So I guess there IS more than one Tioga Lake. One on top of the other!by troutwild - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

What AnotherDave said. Also....If you plan on (solo) hiking a "use trail" or "off trail" (e.g. Tenaya Canyon beyond the bridge, the Diving Board, the Ledge trail etc.), let a responsible person know your itinerary and be sure to check in on your return. RV length limits are mostly based on the actual length of the parking pad. Some have obstacles that may prevent an RV from utilizing the entire space and, as you mentioned, there may be maneuverability issues. I will be in the valley in 3 weeks and could measure the sites (w/ photos) if you like. Someone else here may also be able to do that sooner.by troutwild - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. One senior in each car with a valid "America The Beautiful" pass would have allowed them free entrance. (or 8 people if it were a walk-in facility) If asked, the attendant should have indeed explained the options.by troutwild - General Discussion
Was in the valley for a week, (returned home yesterday) and I'd say around 25% Dogwood bloom. Most of the apple trees are full bloom. Deciduous trees are just beginning to leaf out.by troutwild - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The Canon T2i is a great camera but maybe a little difficult to find since it's been superceeded by the T3i, T4i and T5i. The T3i can be had for around $500.by troutwild - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials
QuoteAlmostThere In other words - to get a reservation, you need to have gotten online well before March 19 - months ago, in fact. Folks will start showing up to check in March 19th on those reservations they made much earlier. Correct. Folks who arrive to camp in Upper Pines Campground on March 19th (through April 14th) actually made their reservations beginning on November 15th, 2013. "On Wednesday, March 19, Upper Pines Campground will return to the reservation system", That means that Tuesday, March 18 is the last day you can just drive in and expect to get a campsite without a reservation. After this date, on Wednesday, March 19th, the campground will return to the reservation system meaning you must have a reservation to camp in Upper Pines campground. Actually, only about half of the "flood sites" were made available. There are still 20+ sites that will become reservable. It could happen on the 15th of next month but more likely will be a "random" day like last year. Oddly, all the regular sites became available at exactly 7:00am (as usual) but the "flood sites" didn't show as "available" until a minuteby troutwild - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotepines It says 30 days camping per calendar year and 14 days between May 1-Sept 15 inclusive. Then it goes on to describe "Camping – Non-Wilderness" and "Camping – Wilderness". So theoretically it's all covered. However, I don't think they really have much means to enforce it, unless they have someone (or equipment) scour reservations for the same names.
