i took a drive (2 1/2 hrs for me) to Yosemite Valley this last monday... i couldn't sleep at home, i was awake at 3:30 am, so i decided what the heck, i'll just leave early, so i was on the road by 3:55 am. lol i got to the valley by 6:30 am, not a soul around the park anywhere (except for campers)... all the parking lots were empty... only workers were driving on the roads... but man! by 11:3by forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. i have never done this trail, but from what i hear, it's really brutal.... along with a number of other boys and leaders, i'm suppose to take some 16-17 yr old boys the last weekend of August (i'll assume it will be very hot then)... and i also hear that most of the trail is in the direct sun???? is that right? i'd like to hear from anyone who has hiked this trail... what to expect... what toby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. The girl is from my town of Manteca, Ca. Here is her official photo on her Facebook (very pretty girl). And for those who are not familiar with Vernal Falls, here is a photo of that. As you can see, the railing is plenty high enough to not fall over (not to mention there are signs all around telling you NOT to jump over etc).by forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. one of the victims (the woman) is from my little ol' town (Manteca).. here below is what my local paper said today. According to the Associated Press story, the horrifying incident happened when a man and a woman crossed a metal barricade above the 317-foot Vernal Fall and made their way over slick granite to a rock in the middle of the swift Merced River. really really sad to see that 3 people fell to their deaths on Vernal Falls.... i have to say, every time i've been there, i have always seen someone do something sooooooo risky, that it scares me to death. i've seen people jump over the barrier (at the top of the falls) trying to be cool and show off (stupid stupid stupid !!!!!!!). on the news, a young boy (i'm guessing about 12 yrs oldby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. a guy i know was there the day before with a buddy of his, they both were hiking with snow shoes... i don't recall how far they got, but far enough to where they were sinking knee deep in the snow (even with snow shoes on). they realized that the weather prediction of 2-3 inches was now turning into feet (ended up being 3 feet)... so they turned around to go back to their car... the snow was comiby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. i'm probably the last one to know, but i never knew that you can camp in a National Forest for free (unless otherwise specified). i went into a Ranger Station on my way to Yosemite a couple of months ago and talked to them about it. they did say you need a fire permit to have a fire though, i asked them how to go about getting one (thinking you had to get one each time), but they had me read somby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. i went about 3 years ago with my wife, the food was i'd say (on a scale of 1-10), a 6-7 at best... the only thing REALLY nice about it, was that we were sooooo lucky to have one of the best tables in the whole place (a window facing outside). the service was pretty good, the atmosphere was great if you've never been there. i think everyone ought to go once in their life just to say you did. it iby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
