Heading to the valley with the family on the 18th for a few days, they have gotten some snow lately and are forecasting a bit more Sun/Mon. Wondering if anyone that frequents the valley this time of year wants to make a prediction on whether or not I will need to put chains on (will have them regardless) and where they will required from along the 140. I've spent a week or two every year in Yosemby ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotewherever I skied to Mt Watkins one March afternoon. That particular face of Clouds Rest was letting go every hour or so. Maybe not large slides like the one you caught on camera, but that face is notorious for them When you do the Tenaya Canyon hike, you can see that those snow slides and summer loose rocks go right down into the river bed. Not a good place to linger. I wondered abouby ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteAlmostThere There is also an active mountain lion den upslope toward Grizzly Peak. That was in a trip report by some climbers I read a couple years back. The cat is probably still there... it's a great place to get away from tourists. I read the same report somewhere. I also heard that due to a rock slide its pretty much a class 5 route nowby ryanmj - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I always wondered if there was a route up from the emerald pool. good stuff, thanks.by ryanmj - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quotechick-on Have this in my One million things still to do in Yosemite folder: that location would be real easy for you to get to, not even an hour from the stables. You should go for fern ledge in the same trip, maybe 2 hours to the top. The more water the better.by ryanmj - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I've heard the easiest (safest) way to to descend the first rap area without rope is to continue along the ledge until you can make it down. Looks like the bypassed the entire length of the inner gorge up above. Maybe the water level was still to high.by ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Stop raft rentals? We counted the rafters at 30$ a head one day for about an hour and it was well over $10,000. Doubt they will stop that anytime soonby ryanmj - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
