Ok. Yeah. Got it. As soon as saw link yesterday was super excited that I'd be
able to snaggle the Princeton maps in their entirety. Unfortunately not so.
The map you show has pretty much been in the Chick-on set since putting it up.
The answer is the same... the boundary markers are along the current border.
(it's blatantly obvious on the east) (Gale, Sing, Post, Foerster... )

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion The markers mark the boundary of the current Park. Certain of that.
However, point me to the exact maps you are looking at so I can see those maps.
The map from Princeton shows the boundaries from many years.
One of the best maps I have seen:

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion No disrespect... but I never even heard about justbackpacksonline.
Then again... when I search ... I never heard about The Backcountry Forum either.
Chick-on said he got one too though:
Sounds like they want publicity for selling backpacks.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Yeah, kinda a bummer they don't have the ones Princeton have.
Those are some of the best maps I have seen. Love those.
Regardless, awesome USGS is doing this. Some really great old maps with old trails.
Of course you can search for "Yosemite". But for reference... here are the Quads for Yosemite:
The adjoining map is typically marked on the map. They do vary it seems dep

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion It's EAST of Kibbie Lake up on the ridge (take a lookie at a USGS map).
All 3 are up there. In great shape. You can find them here:

Many of those Old Topos were/are available at the berkeley site.

But many also are not. Awesome they are doing this. Hopefully they put up various Mt. Lyell Quads too.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion They need to just educate the peeps getting the permits.
How many times have I gotten a permit?
Nearly every time:
"I don't have fires, period"
which is followed by
"Well, if it's cold you can have one"
or
"Well, you are allowed to have one"
or
"You can have a campfire, that's cool"
In other words... they aren't helping the cause by what they ar

Need to def. go back in super low water and see if hiking down the creek is possible...
If the creek were nearly dry the bed has many many 10-20 foot drops into pools. It looks so tempting to follow the bed but those damn dropoffs...
Still want to try it. Pretty sure a number of sections can be done. Would be fun to take a day or so and explore the possibilities.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Thanks. That's too bad you didn't get into Jack Main... although I figured it might
not occur... and if it did you might come back and say "wtf were you getting us into!".
You'll have to come back another time and go for it without the snow.
Glad you had a good time regardless.

Maybe I should consider a different loop, out of HH, more towards the east side out through Rancheria. I wouldnt want to be in the woods that much. Thanks for the tip
Your loop is fine. I just wanted to mention about Shingle Spring area and maybe you want
to head to Kibbie (which, anyone who has been there... loves loves loves) instead.
That's all. There are loads of woods in Yo

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Sigh. Ya ya... I've been up myself with the cables down.
And in all honesty I thought it was easier cables down than up.
Grippy granite is much better than slick worn granite.
All they have to do is remove the lowest section of cables and then only true
rock climbers would scale with the cables down.
Rock climbers by the very nature of the sport have a clue of what they
are getting into.

I think it is all about looking at Half Dome--with the satisfaction and memory of making it to the top. Other peaks may have better views--but other peaks are not as viewed as Half Dome.
Bingo. So please go and enjoy.
(btw over the years on this board I have put up a very large number of peaks in the park... very few are commented on)

Ouch I read here on a daily basis. Everything I can! I haven't done much digging through many of the archived threads, though.
Thank you for the info though
No worries... they were recent so I was confused why you would ask that...

It would be appropriate to mention what you ended up doing in the thread.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Yeah, that's what I assumed your route was. Thus the words about Bigelow.
Unless you want to do cross country and that is your cup o tea then I would say
stay on the trail and do that first. Come back some other day and do xcountry
routes. The Bigelow zig I mentioned is very straightforward and can easily
be done with a pack on IMO (we did).
