My wife and I attempted that hike last summer. It was her first real hike in Yosemite. "It's only 3 miles.....". I should have known better than to make that her first hike. It almost ruined the rest of our trip.
Vernal/Nevada falls is a much better hike, IMO.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion +1 on the signal mirror. We always carry one and actually used it once. My son and I got separated and started worrying about each other's safety. He thought he could see me on a ridge and pulled out the signal mirror. When I saw the flash, I figured only he would use a signal mirror, and I was right. The thing worked great and is thin and lightweight. Highly recommended.

Tomdisco,
I'd be interested in your itinerary prior to May Lake....
Tom,
I'll be doing a 5-day, 4-nighter from Lyell Canyon to Cathedral trailhead via Ireland Creek, Vogelsang, Lewis Creek, Merced Lake, and a detour off trail in the Echo Lake area. Still got until March to decide in which direction I want to do it. I'm leaning towards starting at Cathedral.

Is there any place to resupply between Muir Ranch and Crescent Meadow? I'm thinking no but maybe someone knows a secret spot.
Not really, unless you hike in before hand and put a stash somewhere (probably illegal). There are a few "exits" on the trail back to civilization. Most people prefer Kearsarge pass back to Onion Valley. Also, you can hike down to Whitney Portal

Question:
Are there options for resupply after Muir Ranch? I don't have friends that can hike in and meet me and I don't want to leave the trail if possible. Still no map in hand, so how many miles would you guess it is from MR to Crescent Meadow? This could of course derail the whole plan. I think I can go 10-12 days without a resupply if I plan it right but if we're talking

According to the National Geo Trails Illustrated Map that's where it terminates.
Jim
Interesting. Most folks would say the the northern terminus is Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley, and the southern terminus is Mt. Whitney.
By the way, I'm trying to decipher you IP address. Are you in N.C. ? If so, I'm just right down the road from you.

Actually, you hit the Pacific Crest Trail at Lyell Canyon. At 4.2 miles later east of Tuolumne Meadows near the Wilderness Permit Station the Pacific Crest Trail splits. The regular portion (right) continues pass the permit station, across Tioga Road and into Tuolumne Meadows. The other branch (left) goes one mile and terminates at Tuolumne Meadows Campground. This is also whe

The best of these is the longer one, going past Evelyn Lake to Lyell Canyon and then out to the meadow via the Tuolumne River.
I assume you actually hit the JMT when you get to Lyell Canyon and hang a left back to TM ?

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Stranger things have happened. During my Half Dome hike a few years ago, I spotted a CF card like the one my camera uses. It was all alone by itself, laying on a rock. I took it home and put it in my computer to look at the pictures, to see if I could somehow find the owner. It had the normal family pictures but a few that stood out were of a parade with a high school band. There were severa

General Discussion No, I've never been to Bear Paw. I've only done the "tourist thing" in Sequoia. Is Bear Paw the one with the high sierra camp ?

General Discussion Keith,
I just checked DNC's website re: the bus schedule. You might need that ride after all. It looks like the bus runs July through Labor day. You might want to call them to make sure, though. Connect to http://www.yosemitepark.com/content3col.cfm?SectionID=75&PageID=217
Some more interesting reading that I have bookmarked....

General Discussion Yep, sounds about right. I carry a 20 degree bag. I've been on the JMT in Aug and seen temps as low as 22 F. Of course, some people "layer up" and perhaps use a lighter bag. It really depends on what you can tolerate.

General Discussion Keith,
Greetings from South Carolina !
I don't know how much luck you will have getting a ride. You might try highsierratopix.com if they ever get the website back up. If you don't get a ride, I think there is bus service to the valley. I know you can catch a bus from the valley to Tenaya Lake (it actually goes to Tuolumne Meadows, but I think it stops at Tenaya). It leaves around 8AM and t
