Photography advice, critiques and tutorials Since we can't "attach" a photo from our files at this website like in other forums and I don't want to open another photo sharing account, is it possible to share from faceybook? I do have a few photos there....

Photography advice, critiques and tutorials Yes, this weekend should be crawling with leaf peepers in the Eastern Sierra!
Was on the June Lake loop yesterday myself. Lovely color everywhere but was disappointed with the haze from Wed/Thu control burns. (Today there are a few high clouds floating around.) Hiked to Parker Lake...it is past peak, but was calm with color in the groves at the west end of the lake and plenty of showy trees

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion That's a nice shot!
I took a vertical panorama, in camera, from that point in 2010. Barely got both the upper and lower falls and just a smidge of the railing in the lower left corner.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I'd have to declare myself a Sierraholic, with a degree in yosemiteholicism...

I'm in Mammoth and hiked Dusy Basin today and it was brutally windy and cold. The sky right now looks like hell but no rain today. The locals here scoff at any chance of snow next week. I tend to listen to the locals more than generic weather sites, but God only knows! [/quot
Howard said possibly snow down to 6000' Thursday morning. (Then he went on vacation...)

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Ha...from bears to gas...
Those bears just dash out in front of your vehicle to cross the road. I was taking video where southside drive just turned one way and a black bear (I say "black" because I have really seen very few "black" black bears) dashed across in front of us. Not close enough to hit him...good for him as we were pulling the trailer.
As for purchasing ga

Thurs 9/8: start at Elizabeth Lake TH then XC to near Johnson Peak, where we got rained on from 6:00 - 7:00; clear skies after
Hey, I walked to Elizabeth Lake on Thursday. Sprinkles on my way down, a bit of rain...maybe at about 4pm back at camp, then again while I was out trying to get sunset photos.
Was visiting my sister's campsite WED-THU-FRI. She and her husba

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Had some lovely rain in Tuolumne Meadows Thursday afternoon/evening...waited for a magnificent sunset, but it continued to rain then a little subtle color finally appeared with the alpenglow. (Wednesday evening, the clouds disappeared right before sunset...was on the slope of Lembert Dome to watch...)

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion She will be in Yosemite Valley the week before Tuolumne and is already familiar with turning in her assignments from there...this spring, and the past few years...
When she first was connecting to WiFi at Yosemite Lodge, it cost $5 a WEEK. (I remember using her laptop to make camping reservations one morning.)

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion My husband and I got talked into going on a Alaskan cruise last year. I'll have to say it was one of the best decisions we have ever made. I was freaking out because I get sea sick (I only felt nauseous two days...the beginning and end...) and I get nervous in crowds. I couldn't believe sharing a ship with more population than the town I live in! But you have your cozy room to retreat if nece

General Discussion My experience was much like Bearproof described. Went up in June and I couldn't control my urge to go to the right and ended up on the sandy slope. There was metal poles and cable in the slide debris, so I thought I must be heading in the right direction. I eventually found a real trail. The route was clearer and easier on the way down. (Except that steep slippery section was much harder to

General Discussion Yes, I assume she will have to use her lap top.
She could have access to slow dial up at my house but that is 73 miles away from Tuolumne...I was looking for something closer.
I will pass on the info...her hubby has an iPhone...which carrier, I don't know. Thanks all!
(Oh yeah, I didn't even think there was phone service in Tuolumne, but I just remembered...I made a call from

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion 1. My wedding day (Yosemite Chapel) and the bike ride back to the campground for our reception
2. Getting a job in the valley...living there in a wet year after my first two years experiencing Yosemite in drought conditions
3. My first visit...Tuolumne Meadows, then glancing at the valley from 120, then looking back from the tunnel on 41. Vowed to come back.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion It has been busier in the off season. About 10 years ago, they only had the first loop open end Nov-beginning Dec. Later the second loop was opened too.
Did a Christmas craft show there at Curry for several years...camped in a small 5th wheel too. Only made reservations one of the times...
Lately, in the off season, the prices offered for tent cabins were so good that we couldn't justif

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I'll not be camping at the TM backpacker's camp again...it was the worst camp on our JMT hike. We hated it so bad that at Reds Meadow, we got a regular campsite, instead of using the BP'rs camp.
I'll be dropping off some hikers at the Tuolumne Camp tomorrow afternoon (ick, Saturday.) Best of luck to them...

Oh, and after our descent I was asked to take a picture of two women toasting the success of their Half Dome hike with a small bottle of champagne. Too funny!
My husband and I did that on our first time up Mount Whitney...he drank out of the little bottle and me, out of the sierra cup. What was really funny (?) looking back, is that I had pretty bad altitude sickness for

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Did anyone have trouble getting into the Tioga Pass entrance on the weekend...traffic? (I am providing a shuttle for JMT hikers and don't have the luxury of early entrance to the patk...)

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Do take these flood watches in consideration...
Yesterday there was a severe thunderstorm warning up Bishop Creek Canyon at about 3pm, centered over Aspendell moving to over Big Trees campground. Haven't been able to get any further info.
Also the was a flash flood above Whitney Portal. The Mount Whitney trail closed at 11pm. Some hikers were stranded between Trail Camp and the portal.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Unfortunately I remember a settlement in Yosemite. A mountain biker rode on a trail clearly marked with the bike with red circle/slash sign and got injured when she fell over the side. She won her suit...don't think it went to a jury trial.
