Great article! Thanks for sharing! I bought the small book about the flood they used to (not sure if they still do) sell in the park stores. It's packed now, but this article makes me want to find it.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteparklover I remember that fire well. We had reservations for Upper Pines and didn't know if the park was going to be closed when we were going to be there. It appears that area burned in 1990 (or '91, I found conflicting info) and again in 2018.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We were just there this week and didn't go to the Ahwahnee. But like you said, we often would go to shop or just take in the patio and walk around for an hour or two. So disappointing we'd have to pay to park.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotebasilbop Most likely you're seeing the impacts of the Fergusson Fire (2018) (Wawona to Chinquapin) and the Railroad Fire (2017) (Fish Camp/Bass Lake). It can't be 2018. Those dead trees have been standing there for at least 15 to 20 years. Maybe somebody else knows. It's before you get to the turn off for glacier point coming from the valley. Edit: I found the date, it was 1990. I rememby hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
How was your trip? Did you find snow?by hotrod4x5 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
My wife was asking me on our recent trip when the fire was that burned along Highway 41 between tunnel view and Wawona. I'm sure everyone knows about it, you can still see the skeletons of the trees, they've been there for decades. I feel like it's been over 25 years, does anyone know the exact date and the name of that fire? Also, what was the name of the fire that burned near fish camp? Not sure what happened, I thought I typed in the answer to your question Cal. Anyway, as far as parking goes. The new large parking lot near the village, was not full at 10 AM the two days I drove by it. It was probably 75% full. I assume it was going to fill later. I never did use it, we were able to use parking elsewhere, because we have a disabled person with us. The one that I noticed fullby hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteCoolburn I'm glad you made it back to Yosemite, and I feel your pain regarding Aramark's clueless operations. Thanks! We really had a great time, except for the changes Aramark has made. I don't know how hard it is to do a good pancake, but both their plain and their blueberry pancakes have no flavor at all. Maybe this is old news, but I haven't been to Yosemite since 2014. The old Lodge Cafeteria is now replaced with "fancy" food that you order from a kiosk. I only went for breakfast, but none of the time tested cafeteria faire was available. Saddest part, the old dude who used to make the bear pancakes for kids, that looked more like Mickey Mouse, now didn't seem to have anything to doby hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotemkbgdns one consideration--paper composed when big oak flat road closed, 1 of 3 entrances to the Valley unavailable. supposed to re-open on the 10th, the day before you head up. will ease congestion at remaining entrances. if it opens on schedule. oh, that's possibly really good news, where did you read this?by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. The current park newspaper says be prepared for a 2 to 3 hour wait in afternoons to get into the park. We are staying in El Portal, with our first day being Sunday. QuoteeLeMeNOhPee I was planning on going this weekend, the 10-11, but now there's 60% chance of rain and Tstorms. Really don't want to cancel but my companion is concerned about being outside in the rain for 2 days since we're camping. I feel like it'll be one of those very scattered storms with little rain.
