The buffet at CV is pretty good, I will agree there.
We'll have to agree to disagree about their pizza, however.
Truth be told, I haven't had the CV pizza since probably 3 years ago. I had their buffet and pizza from the Loft a couple months ago.

Curry Village has cabins, not motel rooms.
. The food in Curry Village is pretty bad (the pizza tastes like cardboard), but the ambiance is far superior, IMO, to Yosemite Lodge.
.Pretty bad is a bit harsh. I think their pizza is pretty good, not as good as the Loft, but not bad. And their buffet is decent as well.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I believe they are referring to the Stoneman rooms. My preference would be a Deluxe Room in the Lodge (what most Yosemite long time visitors call it for short). Request a room with a view of Yosemite Falls, although it may not be flowing at that time, but those rooms are nicer, IMO. I've stayed at both the standard and deluxe rooms at the Lodge as well as cabins and Stoneman rooms.

Do they really need three web cams pointed at Half Dome, with zero pointed at Yosemite Falls?I like that idea. The one on Sentinel dome could easily be turned to point to the falls.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion If they aren't hikers, then having them do anything over about 3 miles will just be miserable for them. Trust me, I have been there, done that. The best hikes for non hikers are the valley loops, the short loop at the base of Yosemite Falls, the short hike to the Tuolumne Grove (uphill on the return), Mirror Lake, the base of Bridalveil Fall and to the bridge below Vernal Fall. Bringing bikes

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion October is going to be better than Sept. The later in the month, the better. I prefer Upper Pines, simply because I have a 31 ft. fifth wheel and it is easier for me to maneuver around in Upper Pines.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion If I am ever in Yosemite and need gas, I drive past El Portal about 10 minutes to that little store on the south side of the highway, I am not sure if it is Midpines or what it's called, but their gas is usually 50 cents lower than El Portal.

Sorry, I missed that post above, I thought only driving it with detours/delays in the summer was being discussed.
I'm a creature of habit, and have always taken 41 in all the way from Oakhurst. You've given me something to think about.
For what it's worth, per Mapquest:
Oakhurst to Yosemite Village via 41: 47.37 miles, 1 hour 26 minutes.
Oakhurst to Yosemite Village via 49 to

Quotehotrod4x5DO NOT go through Merced! Follow my directions posted above. Merced takes way too long as you go through city streets and traffic.
I go through Merced all the time. It's no problem. The back roads would take longer.Tomaaato Tomahhhto.... to each his own. I went through Merced once, I will never do it again. The roads I mention are deserted and 50-55 is easy.

thanks for the info Y_P_W
No problem.
I also wanted to clarify that it's actually two bridges. They set up two bridges to access an old road across the Merced River from the slide area. The traffic is controlled in each direction via automated traffic lights. The paths onto and off of the bridge are at a right angles, so that's what the length restriction is about.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion 5>41>140 doesn't seem right. Go 5>99>Exit Minturn Road to Le Grand. Make a right on Le Grand Rd, then go through the tiny town heading north on Cunningham Rd. Finally, make a right on 140. This cuts off 1/2 hour or more because you bypass going through Merced.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Heh, maybe I did see it, I dunno, it has been a few years. What I do remember is that the road seemed to disappear, and at the time, I didn't have the info about the switchbacks, so I didn't look for the road above me. I believe across from tunnel view is about where I turned around. Looks like I'll be hiking it again on my next trip, if for no other reason than to find that railing!

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Thanks for that link! I had to search a bit to find the PDFs, for anyone looking, you click the map you want, then in the upper right corner, click the "printable version." PDFs are much better than jpegs IMO because you can zoom with little loss of quality.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion The potential problem I see with reserving for TM is what if they don't open in time if we have another wet year? Perhaps reserve tents at both locations, and then cancel whichever one you don't need. TM would definitely be my preference. Park speed limits will make that 30 miles take 45 mins at least.

.
I'm sure that Glacier Point uses a lot less water now than when the hotel existed. It probably uses a lot less water than when the palatial new restrooms there were permanently shut down by a crackpot lawsuit. But that's another story. They have since built some new waterless restrooms at Glacier Point...Not to hijack, but do you have any links to this story? I know people

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I did that hike a couple years ago. I think I got as far as Rainbow Point, based on my photos, but I never saw the railing. Here is a pano I shot handheld, which is why the funny edges. I chose not to crop them off.
