Quotetanngrisnir3Ack! Where were you shooting from? Those houses to the north of Portal road before the Alabama Hills start?
That one was taken from our balcony at the Comfort Inn on 395.
We stayed there two weeks ago, but on the ground floor, looking over the back lawn.

Photography advice, critiques and tutorials Thirteen months later, and a return last weekend to Ducks with Chainsaws Pond. Not nearly as much water, and we were in a rush, but with better gear and PP software, I'm still happy.

How many people still call Curry Village, Camp Curry? Yes, the old sign is still there, but no where in the literature does it call itself Camp Curry anymore. If you are one of the name purists, I suggest you start calling it Camp Curry, just to be consistent.
I call it Camp Curry, but I've been going there forever, since I was a little kid.

Anyone know without a doubt that you can simply park your car at the
"Dana Trailhead" (a smidgen east of the Kiosk) after Oct. 15?
Since I'm from the west... I'm not familiar with the procedure or whatnut over there.
I know there's a gate way down below... but not sure about higher.
Of course I can just call... if need be.
Good question. IIRC, if the road is open, p

Soooo...... let's call it Glacier Polish Hill, until something better comes along.
I was thinking something less original for now: Olmstead Rock or Olmstead Dome.
I'm going to call it "Mr. Crumbles & The Giant Ice Weasel"

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I was up there for the past few days, and it was good to see fliers for this missing person EVERYWHERE, including Tioga Pass Resort and other places out of the park.
Hope he went gently.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Sigh. Very well done. My g/f and I just drove by the OV yesterday, wondering if we should go up just to see it this year, on our way back from the White Mountain Research Center.
We didn't, so your shot is most welcome.

Photography advice, critiques and tutorials Here's a tool I've used countless times to find out the names of objects in pretty remote spots. Someone in another thread asked what the name of a particular dome was, and brought this to mind.
I'm continually surprised about how many people know/use Google Earth, but are utterly unaware of this little tool. Super handy.

You will have some dark night skies and a nice crescent moon setting in the west in the evening, so wherever you are, think about doing some night stuff! From the Whites about a month ago:
Have fun!
Thanks! We were up there for the first time about a month ago, driving into a total lightning storm. Dicey, I can tell you, and my g/f got altitude sickness. Back down the mount

I have read in a few places that Moose Lake got its name because (to some) it looks like a moose on the maps... I don't see it.
That's alright. There's a gorgeous vernal pond about 1-1.5 miles east of TM High Sierra Camp that I try to visit every year to shoot, and because it's seasonal, there's no name.
So I named it "Ducks With Chainsaws Lake".
It's got a certa

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion We lucked out and got two night in a row at TMHSC due to people cancelling reservations this coming labor day weekend, to be followed by a night staying up near White Mountain Peak at the White Mountain Research Center, and although I used to spend a lot of time around TM, it was years ago, before I was a photographer, and mostly using it as a staging area, heading out for points north or south.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I hunt, but only for things that I'm going to eat, almost exclusively for wild pig and turkey, and never predators.
Given that the bear is the apex predator, although also an omnivore, and it tastes like funky crap, I've have never understood the allure, whatsoever, of hunting them.
We're both hunters, the bear and I, and he/she lives there, fer chrissakes, so why would I want to go and sho

Has anyone been to Cathedral Lakes yet this year? I'd like to go but I'd also like to know what to expect before I make a trip. I don't care to hike in snow. I use the climber's trail to the lower lake since it's so much shorter. I'd also like to avoid clouds of blood thirsty mosquitos. I'm thinking about going to peak 10,450 or to the Medlicott Lakes at the end of the month or e

I'm sure hoping for some clouds at Bearpaw this time.
Bearpaw as in Bearpaw Meadow in SEKI?
I've always been interested in their single equivalent of Yosemite's HSCs, but the prices are beyond nutty.
