Wow. That's odd. Who in the hell drives drunk in Zion? The bus drivers?
I was just there in March, and the only booze I saw being consumed was by a handful of folks at the lodge in the middle of the park.
Maybe they're all a bunch of juicehounds up by Kolob.

The thousands of mine shafts that pockmark the Sierra Nevada and testify to California's Gold Rush riches have also left a legacy of toxic contamination in some of the state's popular recreation areas, according to a new study.

Here's a perspective shot. That is an SUV of some sort, center-left, driving away from me.
This is my fave shot. It's right near the center of the lake, where an

Cool.
The east side and (of course) the south facing slopes will clear before the others.
Can we see some pictures of Owens Lake please?
Edited to move pics over to the left.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion To give you an idea of the snow levels and what's happened to them, I took these pics I took of the same thing, the first on 2/28 of this year and the second/third from last Sunday, two days ago. They are the gears at the first intake of the California Aqueduct up between Independence and Big Pine, off Goodale Rd. Middle of the Owens Valley more or less looking in the same direction. We're having a real hard time finding current information about the condition in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. I understand that there is plenty of snow still around and creek crossings are high but how about the lakes themselves? I see that Tioga Lake and Ellery Lake were both melted out last week and they are at a similar elevation - is this a good barometer at all for what

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I just now found out about them, after having also just bought a bunch of Backpackers Pantry stuff for the coming days up in the King's Canyon area.
They look great, at the very least: http://packitgourmet.com/

B. Is there any trail/route to get into the middle cascades area of Yosemite falls? Is it even permitted to do so? If so, how technical is it?
Is your question about "Fern Ledge"?

Please, in the future... do not put "simple" in the title.
(but ask stuff like that... this is how I learn a lot of stuff and other cool places to explore!)
No problem. That's how I found out about a LOT of stuff on the east side: asking about all the things that are visible, but whose access points aren't necessarily so.
In fact, I'll be at Horseshoe Meadows t

I'm curious (and will check it out in a few weeks) about taking the normal YF trail about 1/2 up to where that long scree-and-tree field descends, apparently almost directly, into the middle cascases area, going west to east.'
Yeah, I saw that too. Have never take then time to explore it though. It might have a 20 ft. drop somewhere
where you can't get down.

Bumping this to the top (obviously not simple questions).
Hopefully whatever will take a look and have an answer to B.
The only place you would get a fine would be areas closed due to
the ESA afaik. They would probably try to dissuade you if you asked tho.
Thanks! Just found this link, which describes a very technical way of getting up there, but since they're all primari

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I've been going to Yosemite since I was about 4 years old (43 now) but the vast majority of it has been high-country and north of the 120 stuff, so I'm not all that familiar with things in other places. To whit:
A. Has anyone been to the Nelder Grove, and how worthwhile is it, from a photography point of view?
