Want. Fits in a bear locker and easy to use.
It would be awesome at, say, Onion Valley, TM or Lake Sabrina as a reward after a long day of trekking around.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Quoteshaunsmomo
I was looking at a Yosemite map recently and saw this "Hiking in Tenaya Canyon is dangerous and strongly discouraged". I also saw a post on another site which refers to Tenaya Canyon as the Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite. My daughter and I camp in the valley each summer and do the basic day hikes (4 mile, Panorama, Mist, Muir) but we would like to try to go to Hidden Fal

Not a political post, just a heads up on events which could affect your plans...
If sequestering happens one week from today,
"Yosemite National Park in CA, will delay the opening of the Tioga and Glacier Point roads by as much as four weeks due to limitations on snow removal resulting from reduced staffing which will impact thousands of visitors. In 2011, Yosemite National

I wonder how cold it is up there in June. And how bad the mosquitoes would be then. Never been up there that early.
Here's a shot from Memorial Day weekend of 2012, May 26th I think. Ah, summer in Yosemite.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion La Hacienda in Merced, G street, right near the 99. Very unexpectedly great Mexican food.
Happy Burger in Mariposa. Above-decent general American food, really nice people.
Stay the hell away from Sal's or Salvador's Mexican Food. Without going into great detail, it's crap.

I know Park Service tends to have strong aversion to stoplights, but adding stoplights to the intersection of Northside Lodge and Yosemite Lodge Drive is simply the most logical and cost-effective solution to this problem. Why build an underpass when stoplights would effectively regulate pedestrian and vehicle traffic at a fraction of the cost?
The Park Service should also rep

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion A. Underpass at that intersection? Oh HELL yes.
B. Getting rid of the stables/horses? Yes, esp. since compared to the land they require/how many people use those 'services', it could be put to much better use.
C. Ice rink? I have very fond childhood memories of it, and it doesn't really take up that much valuable space, and I've seen it pretty packed in winter, so I'm rather neutral about

QuoteparkloverIt is Huell's show and it was his personality that set it apart from other travel shows.
Really? His personality was what I really, really hated about the show. He'd go to "amazing" places and spend his entire time there trying to find people that would admire him. That would have been okay if it hadn't meant the genre was preempted. It'll be a long time befor

I will speculate those cutting out the rock also are copper thieves down in the Los Angeles urban area. And they are low skilled little educated laborers working when they can in construction sometimes sawing pavement and concrete otherwise are into burglaries. That they and their gang visited the Eastern Sierra maybe going up to Mammoth maybe car camping, certainly drinking

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion We got to the park about 2100 hours, entering at the Wawona entrance, and there was black ice EVERYWHERE. Immediately put the Jeep into high 4wd and had the slowest drive of my life to the valley, but we arrived safely. Hoped it would snow that night, and we were not disappointed, as it snowed overnight and intermittently throughout the day.
Started off at Valley View, I found it 'meh' and m

I've had to take a bath in a stream that was about an inch deep and 6 inches wide. That water was cold too.
Yes, I've noticed that, psychologically at least, it's MUCH harder to bear cold water when it's only parts of one's body in contact with it.
I find full submersion somehow easier (and more pleasant) than dipping by butt in a small stream.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I'm one of those people who, for the last 30 secs to a minute or so, likes to turn the hot water completely off in the shower, leaving only the cold. It's a nice, bracing way to start the day.
However, living in Hollywood, Los Angeles, 'cold' is often just south of warm.
When showering at the Camp Curry Showers, esp. in fall/winter (or at the Best Western in Bishop, etc...) cold means COOO
