Re: In search of giant sequoias

Thinking about stopping by Nelder Grove on the way to Yosemite from San Fran as a way to quench the thirst for seeing some giant sequoias since Mariposa grove is closed. Should we make the 2 hour detour or no?

Prolly gonna be a LOT longer than 2 hours...

Why wouldn't you just go to Tuolumne Grove? Or Merced Grove?
It's more on your way....

Heard good things about nelder grove, but also not above going elsewhere.

I'd highly recommend calling Sierra National Forest in Oakhurst and asking
conditions of the road to the Grove if you end up deciding to go there.

I don't know if they plow Sky Ranch or not... only that they grade it as some point...
and the road to the grove is off Sky Ranch...

Anywho... that's all I know.

(you know you can see a number in Yosemite Valley... not GIANT ... but ...
still... they are Sequoias ... right? )

According to Google Maps, it's either about a six or eight mile drive (about 30 minutes by either route) from Hwy 41.

And in regards to the post about Nelder Grove you posted the link to, IIRC, that user always had a history of negativity, pooh-poohing a lot things and a lot of places. I would take her opinion about the Nelder Grove with a few grains of salt.
