Why don't people keep their feet on the ground?by Vince - General Discussion
He probably fell asleep on the granite open area below mist falls, where the rapids are. It's a nice place to take a nap. I can picture someone falling asleep deeply there, even in low water time. Mist Fall is too damp to get into the lucid zone. I'm surprised the squirrels and chipmunks didn't get to him sooner thoby Vince - General Discussion
It appears to be a footprint cast made in scat. Perhaps bears are researching Bigfoot and they haven't discovered plaster yet. And the scat question begs another question, did anyone hear it?by Vince - General Discussion
I was driving to San Diego from Reno a couple years ago in October and a CHP was sitting by the side of the road where eeek's 2nd picture was taken near Conway Summit. People were hitting their brakes thinking the cop was doing radar checks but suddenly he popped out of his squad car and started taking pictures! Got a chuckle out of me.by Vince - General Discussion

Last time I went to Mirror Lake I remember signs saying no bikes beyond this point. I don't remember where the sign was but it wasn't too far from Ahwanee Meadow. Besides, why bike to that puddle anyway, only takes a few minutes to walk.by Vince - General Discussion

I wonder what the "upgade" to NP status would bring, really. If it means another Ahwanee and Camp Curry then I would say no thanks.by Vince - General Discussion
I love living up here. This article tells why. I go just a few miles away from Reno any direction and I'm in the middle of nowhere. http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_6839086 They've been searching for Steve Fossett for a week now and found six plane wrecks they didn't know about but none of them Fossett. You have no idea how hard it is to admit I was tricked by a freakin squirrel! No wonder they are so fat. Chipmunks are not fat. HyperMoochers. OK now I have to go get a telephoto lens. Admit it, I win the squirrel photo contest! "Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel" And yes, pest. The humans who feed them, I mean.by Vince - General Discussion
Here's my entry: http://www.hikeofyourlife.com/images/IMG_2684.JPG The photo is megabytes big, so click if you wish. I'm in between thinking them of cute and/or pest. Vinceby Vince - General Discussion

I smashed into a deer with my Mustang about a year ago on 395 at the northwest end of Mono Lake around 11 p.m. Luckily I was gearing down to go up to Conway Summit so I was only going about 50 mph. Busted a high-beam headlight and pushed the middle of the front end in about an inch but not far enough to wreck the radiator. I wasn't hurt, just angry...I had two pet cats in a carrier in the back seby Vince - General Discussion

I remember reading a similar story over the winter in Sequoia/Kings Canyon. It said the gardens would be hunted for in winter mainly to reduce the risk to park rangers. It's probably true the Mexican cartels are involved in this and using "their" people (amnesty for illegals? Ha!) to cultivate the crops. These are extremely dangerous and ruthless cartels and an adventuresome hiker who gby Vince - General Discussion
Found her in Echo Creek drainage. http://www.yubanet.com/artman/publish/article_63350.shtml The search for a missing woman in Yosemite National Park ended on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 when her body was located in the Echo Creek drainage, a rugged wilderness area southwest of Tuolumne Meadows. Ottorina Bonaventura, 80, was reported missing by friends when she failed to return to the Vogelsang Hiby Vince - General Discussion

OK OK, worst *dirt* road LOL I forgot to tell you the other part (said it in another post) I will be staying at Pumice Flat Aug. 11-12-13, for family reunion, come by if you want, there will be extra beer. I'm in the OJ-style white bronco. Oh, and my cousins are CHP and Fire Dept so they are handy with guns and hatchets in case you're looking for trouble. Oh yeah, and while you're at it...go to Bodie. Sheesh how could I forget the best state park in California? A little north of Mono Lake (you can see Mono Lake from up on Bodie Bluff). Take the stamp mill tour. Come to think of it, you might want to forget Yosemite altogether and just tour the Eastern Sierra. Yosemite's too crowded anyway and you might be eaten by a bear or a bigfoot.by Vince - General Discussion
Just keep in mind about Fossil Falls (just before that big red cinder cone on the east of 395 just past Little Lake): Worst road in the history of the world and there is volcanic glass everywhere so go slow you won't break your suspension or cut a tire. Last time I was in there in my Mustang the speedo cable came loose from the speedo, which took me about 15 minutes to put back in and cut the craby Vince - General Discussion
NW Nevada just came up with its first case of WNV this week, must be all the water puddles through the Carson Valley, though come to think of that, the Carson River is poisoned with Mercury and other slag...OK, it's California's fault. No, Bush's. No, Hillary's.by Vince - General Discussion
For those of you who like to look up instead of just all around, the moon will be eclipsed in full the early morning of Tuesday, Aug. 28. I would suggest Toulumne Meadows for this if you need to see it from the NP but anywhere away from city lights will work (I plan on being somewhere east of Fallon, NV). Bring a suitable camera (puny digital cameras aren't the best, you need some serious zoom aby Vince - General Discussion
Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Hot Creek and Mono Lake South Tufa and Panum Crater From 395 going North, just outside of Big Pine, hang a right at the Giant Sequoia, go up the narrow canyon, turn LEFT at the sign, then a windy road for several miles till you get to 10,000 feet. Easy 4.25-mile hike around the ancient bristlecones, self-guided tour, ranger gives a talk about the trees on the hby Vince - General Discussion
