Quotehotrod4x5 Ok, I really would like to see the valley flooded and photograph it. Assuming I can find a place to stay, am I crazy? Thinking about going sometime next week. Well, I'd rather not see the Valley flooded but if it is, and you go, could you grab some shots of #60 in Lower Pines and give me the date and time you took the shot? I can compare that with the river guage for that day aby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotechick-on I got some scuba booties. Do you have a shot o Swing-on Bridge? I'd like to see that. QuotePineCone mtn man, thanks for the photos, very interesting to see the effects of the high water. Those campers in site 63 would have been better off with a canoe instead of a car for that parking pad. Good luck with your reservation, I hope you manage OK without too much water to deal with. Here you go PineCone...... The picture showing site 63 shows how flooded their parking pad was, but they had their tent to the left out of the picture (to the left of that orange bucket) which is elevated just enough to keep the tent dry. Quotesactown23 The best part is, that they now get charged for cancelling their reservation. The $10 cancellation fee has been in effect for a few years now. QuotePineCone mtn man, how many other sites in that loop were flooded and closed? I can see site # 63 to the left in your photo also flooded, and I imagine site # 60 must have been as well? Quotehikerchick395 I was there last year...I was going to say that I thought it was the 7th not the 6th of June for the peak...arrived in the valley on the 5th, the day Tioga opened. They just revised the river flood forecast. Now the week of 6/13 is to be the highest level. (click on Hyrological Forecast link in my post above). Possibly 2 feet over flood stage. The highest the river got last year was on 6/7/2011 at 10.45 ft. at Pohono Bridge. ( .45 ft. over flood stage).by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

These are pictures of campsite 62, Lower Pines, exactly one year ago today. On that day it was the highest river reading of the summer, actually it was a little higher that morning as the water was to to the top of those cement bumpers. The projected highest river readings according to the Hydrological forecast this year will be the week of 6/19. The Grand Canyon has to be a pretty good low level light pollution area. The nearest high light pollution areas would be Flagstaff, Las Vegas and St. George. I used to have a website on my favorites that was a map of the U.S. that showed the U.S. based on light pollution, but I can't find it on the internet anymore. Interesting. Does anyone know the date last year of this same action? "When vegetation starts to dry out"? That wasn't quite what I was getting at. I was referring to the situation where a forum member may have reserved a site 5 months ago or so thinking they themselves were going to use the site but then something came up where they couldn't, that before they cancel the site they would offer it to forum members (there's a way of doing this that is totally within the rules. Actually I like the idea of one of our fellow group members offering a campsite to our fellow members that he/she can't use. My experience in the Valley in June is that they are pretty thick in the meadows but in the non-grassy areas like the campgrounds, and trails away from meadows and grass, that you rarely come across them. If you are going to fish in the park you'll need to get a NPS Yosemite permit at the visitor center(In addition to to Ca. fishing license).
