Quotebasilbop If I recall, this old Hite Cove trail was part of the route from Mariposa to Yosemite Valley via El Portal / Hennessy Ranch. Another segment of this route that may be free of vegetation is the one from Hennessy Ranch to the Old Wawona Road in the Grouse Creek area. There's also the old Sunset Trail that went from the Arch Rock area up to the Wawona Road. Also, in the Hite Coveby chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I'll have to look at the timestamps to tell you how long it took. imo... all the rap points were very easy to find. I dunno about 35 degrees. I think that's about right... but I'd say at the very bottom.. of the Shrub Dog descent... it's more than that... which is why you'll end up like the pix set there ... in the shrub gully a bit.. It took us over 3 hours to descend last thanksgiving... and we "knew what we were doing" hahahahaha 15 minutes prior to that... we had run into the 6.1 miles (or such) to Yosemite Valley via Yosemite Falls sign... so .. uh... yeah... it's not a shortcut ... And the trail was very overgrown at the top. I'd dooz it agin tho.by chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Mid August this year probably ok. Last year... no way... It's a friction climb down from the "Shrub Doggy". You should not need any pro. Your call. There weren't any rap pts when I did it. Just a down climb. With a dive into the shrub when the angle got too much. There's trails on the north side. There's PO. I think you want to stay out of the creek after awhile. Bear in mind (hahaha) that the PCT thru-hiker highway will be in full force... So... I'd try to steer clear of camping along the PCT. (OMG... Quotenwhkr Quotechick-on Yes that's 10,450 🙏🏼 Looks airy! That also means that I have some unfinished business . I was with some friends who weren’t comfortable and I am glad that they stopped lower down. I still had around 250’ to go from this spot. Do you lower down and approach it from the left-east side and then traverse to south side for that last 30’-50’? I haven't goneby chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
You'll spy LeConte before Waterwheel. There's a spur that is pretty obvious. You know you've reached Waterwheel when you hit the LARGE switch back heading to Return. Lots of open and switchers after that. Quoteparklover Heard the same thing about some areas in Yellowstone after the 1988 fire. Each time we go to Yellowstone, we take a picture in the same exact spot we took a picture after the fire and that spot has recovered nicely without human intervention.
