QuoteKenS I didn't get any traction with the Yaktrax on packed snow on a hike up Mt Whitney several years back. Just purchased a pair of Kahtoola Microspikes. The elastic harness makes it as easy to install on trail running shoes as the Yaktrax, and it should provide more grip on ice and snow with its 3/8 inch spikes. I tried the Kahtoola uSpikes and although one may feel they have more gripby Catalonian Burro - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Excellent photos tanngrisnir3. I like the Royal Arches, but my preference from the ones you show is the El Cap shot. Thought about taking my 20D and 10-22 lens into the backcountry a few times but I always ditch it at the last moment due to it bulkiness. Besides when on the trail and you got a semi-schedule, I think its best to have a point and shoot. BTW, my point and shoot (Canon SD-by Catalonian Burro - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quoteszalkowski Quotebill-e-g I cannot stress it enough.... get the SMALLEST/LIGHTEST pair that works with your weight. I weight 150-ish... and I bought MSR 22" last year after using 30" shoes.... Even with a fully loaded pack they work just fine in the Sierra snow. They've been tested even right after a snow dumped over a foot of snow on us. First time I snow camped I was nervous about the cold and perhaps overpacked. But one thing I can tell you that prepared my noggin' was this book, which since then, I go back to as a reference from time to time. It discusses much more than skiing- it is essential you go out "prepared". Perhaps nothing too new, but we did sight quite a few people going up to Half Dome yesterday. By early afternoon the wind kicked up and the dark grey clouds started to come in. It was then while we ate a quick lunch we noticed some fools (6 or more?) going up on the downed cable on Half Dome... <sigh> Sadly, people just don't think or realize how quickly things can change up there sometimby Catalonian Burro - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
