No thought on place for photographs, but how exciting. Early congratulations! This person proposed on Glacier Point (which is not practical in the winter), but it's one of my favorite Yosemite write-ups. https://yosemitefun.com/yosemite_national_park_garrett.htm I agree with the suggestion of where photographers regularly set up.by recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. We will be in South Lake Tahoe in a couple of weeks dropping off a family member for the TRT hike. I had thought of spending a night in the eastern Sierra and then coming back over 120 (assuming I could get a permit) so I could hang out in Tuolumne meadows and see some marmots. I love watching the marmots. However, was just reading about the construction on Tioga Rd. Have no interest in drivinby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thank you for the report. Enjoyed reading it very much. Even read parts of it to my family. We were there just before you, also stayed in Curry Village, and ate at the lodge, and debated taking the shuttle. But the previous year we had spent so much time waiting for the shuttle, combined with the fact that the shuttle stop right by our lodging (Stoneman) was out of service made us drive. I was in the valley with my family this week, by Happy Isles, and I thought, I wonder if we can get into the Merced River gauge webcam. :-) It took two trips and a bunch of effort, but we did it. My son and I are on one side, my husband on the other. My daughter had given up on our quest and was relaxing back at Curry village. I do not know the answer to your question, but have to say, your post made me smile. :-) It's something my husband would think of ... one meal has barely had a chance to digest and he's thinking of the next meal. I do have a lot of non-date-specific memories associated with the pizza deck. For me, Curry Village and the pizza deck/lounge area will always be the heart of Yosemite Valley, orby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's very tragic. I guess the surprise element is that they were all together. Wouldn't one try to attempt to get help? I guess the dog wanted to stay with their owner? Either way it is a sad situation.by recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Somewhat off topic but I had to go in an ambulance a few years ago and the 7-minute ride cost me $4000. We have a high-deductible insurance so I had to pay for it. Though if it wasn't that, the $24k ER bill would have max'd our deductible. The ambulance ride also showed up as out of network, but after discussions with the insurance company, they consider it in-network. Ambulance rates are negotiaby recycling1991 - General Discussion
How nice! You did the grand tour, we will do a mini-tour this week, not really a tour ... My daughter has worked for Xanterra in Yellowstone this summer. We are heading out to meet her for a few days, stay near the Tetons, and then all of us head home. She is also into rock climbing. :-( I do not rock climb. It scares me. She sent some photos that seemed like they needed a 90 deg rotation!by recycling1991 - General Discussion
This is very sad. It will be interesting (and a learning experience) to understand what is suspected as the cause of death. We generally take 120 to Yosemite, so I'm less familiar with 140. Looked at the map to see where Hite's Cove was. The proximity to El Portal reminded me of Cedar Lodge and that sad story. When we do take 140, whenever I pass Cedar Lodge, I think of it. I recall a man-made structure (small dam) on the Merced river, as you finish the Mist trail before getting to the top of Nevada Falls. Then I was reading this 1920 Guide to Yosemite and noticed the comment about the water cascading down. http://www.yosemite.ca.us/library/guide_to_yosemite/yosemite_trails.html "The rockslide to the left fell from the face of Liberty Cap in 1918. A bit over a week ago we moved our daughter to LA. We live in northern CA. Since none of us had seen Joshua Tree and said daughter is into rock climbing, we thought why not add a day to the trip, visit JT, and then go back to LA, drop her off and come home. Being outside in a park, our own family, should be fairly safe. We had a short outside, socially-distanced visit with family in Orange Countyby recycling1991 - General Discussion

I have stayed at most Yosemite lodgings but not Wawona. Plus I have not hiked Chilnualna Falls. So I was thinking for May 2021 to maybe book a couple of nights at Wawona. Thanks for the link. As far as corruption goes, this is peanuts. Fun to hear but of no real consequence. As a rabbit owner, my favorite corruption story is still Rep. Duncan Hunter who used campaign funds to fly his pet rabbit. I also think it's one thing to ask a friend, but this is not asking a friend, this is using their position of power. I do agree it happens all the time. At one pby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotewrysys beautiful, inspiring photo. I'm planning a trip next weeknd to Yosemite with the kids (6 and 3), both pretty good hikers. Is there a calm lake or waters which anyone would recommend with kids for wading and perhaps boating like chick-on? Looks wonderful and think the kids would love it. also have searched for good hikes with kids and also would like any hike recommendations thisby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I also think that is the regular high season price. It's $276 if it's 2 adults, but if you have 2 adults, 2 teenagers (they count as adults), then it's 4 adults. $296, and then with taxes you end at $337. I think my comment on price was re: the total price. In most places, $337 gets you a pretty nice room or suite. Even in National Parks. They had actually changed my room-type because of this. Good thing I called to change the date and learned they had changed the room type (without any notification to me).
