Hello Folks! Been trying to find a pair of knee gaiters (for snow) that would work for small calves and sz10.5 shoes. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried a few at the local rei and found that most of the sz Medium-Large gaiters (I guess they measure by boot size) didn't fit around the calves. They only had M-XL though and a bit hesitant to order size small without prior fitting. Thankby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Seeing all these threads of your guys boating adventures makes me want one! Have you guys boated the lakes in the Lewis Creek area or Townsley? -Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Thanks Chick-on, Kevin Quotechick-on They are articulated... so that is normal No need to baby those shoes... they are very very solid... and MSR is great about them... Just got back from Yose and just wanted to thank everyone for their input! My new set of Ascents rocked! Went xc from GP road to Crocker Point and had a blast! Took sometime getting used to them scratched the deck up pretty bad...still getting over "new toy" anxiety One concern I did have though was that I had to lift pretty high on GP road to not drag the back end of the tails on mby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotemrcondron QuoteKevinD Slightly off topic, But does Yose mind if I go XC around the GP area? Was thinking of testing out my new MSR Ascents (Thanks for the advice JKW!) by going out to Dewey than XCing over to Sentinel! -Kevin You can cross-country pretty much anywhere you like. Don't shoe on top of ski tracks though. Sounds good! Thanks! Quick question, my friend doesn't want to sby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hey Eeek, We were using 0 degree bags so those barely kept us warm. The significant other was doing relatively fine as we had filled our nalgenes up with hot water and left them in the bags. Hey Folks, Was planning on backpacking from GP road and was wondering what you guys would recommend for first night "accommodations" before starting on the trail. I come from the LA area and usually stay at the backpackers campsites at TM and the Valley but feel that they are quite a distance from GP.Are there any other alternatives? Thanks! and Happy New Years! -Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hey Folks! My friends and I decided to go for the East Rim Trail in Zion NP after the 12/17 storm. Boy were we rewarded with splendid views! There wasn't enough snow along most of the route, mainly just 3-5 inches, so it was just microspikes instead of snow shoes. Temperatures dropped into the negatives at nights ...but the morning views were worth it! Drive into the park. The easby KevinD - General Discussion
Hey JustWalking, Much appreciated! Good to hear that lightweight mids work well with them. The Mrs uses the Salomon Ultra mids and was worried it wouldn't work! Was looking at that one but the Revo Ascents also caught my attention since they were $30 cheaper. Seems like the Lightening have more traction though... Tough call...its either 2 sets of snow shoes for the Mrs and I or a nice downby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hey Folks! Happy Holidays! I've decided to finally purchase my own set of snow shoes and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions? I get a deal with MSR and was hoping to go with them. I'd like to use them for some cross country trips in yose and SEKI (hoping to get to some peaks). Was looking at the MSR Revo Explores but have heard that they aren't too good for unpacked snow trails anby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Wow awesome trip!! Looks like you guys had a great camp site! Nice to see the Valley getting snow. Have you ever gone up the other side? Like around Yose point or eagles peak around this time of the year? Anyways thanks for sharing! -Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

QuoteDave They'd have to convict him first. The prosecutor dropped the case since it would cost more than it was worth, that, and they failed to present a good case against him. ahh well hopefully he won't start another illegal campfire : /by KevinD - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotettilley Nice video. Your rain storm had a name...remnants of Hurricane Linda. At least it dampened some of the fires going on... Well I'll be damned! No wonder why it kept going! Large amount of people we're exiting early on the 3rd day of rain. Rafferty was almost empty! Smoke wise we didn't see much but folks coming from the Valley said the fires near tenaya were still going strong. Tby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

QuoteFranklyn Hey, Guys Thanks for all of the great advice. Everything is falling into place for a launch on the 17th. Familys all situated and vacation request is approved. I've been pouring over the maps and it looks like a no-brainer. Added bonus the price of gas is slumping which is key comming from San Diego. We just need some decent weather and this trip is a go!
