As a light sleeper, I usually do not like public campgrounds for that very reason. And in particular have been annoyed at Camp 4 by campfire drinking types that quietly yak and giggle for hours. Also I usually get up at dawn/sunrise and am ready to sleep by 10pm. Even in noisy environments, the inside of my vehicles have tended block sounds much better than just using ear plugs. Quotechick-on Nice! Looking at that my guess would be that they did a very big traverse and completely avoided the Inner Gorge. Remember that this guy had already just done Quarter Domes. Again, amazing. For the Quarter Dome descent, I'll speculate they may have skied from the 8316 foot summit southwest down the low gradient sunny forested areas then traversed northwest to the saddle atby DavidSenesac - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Exceptional accomplishment though not as extreme as the newspaper description so much as that whole granite slab slope is extremely dangerous due to avalanches, likely icy sections, and the reality that a fall would result in a very long rolling tumble ending up like hamburger. Been a few years since we've had a good Pineapple Express event. Here in the SF Bay Area when the high winds peak as the front bears down, it always brings with it an interesting distinctive odor in the air. Snow levels are forecast to jump way up from 7000 earlier to 10,000 feet during part of Saturday night that will also cause some melting of snow on the ground adding to flows. I will speculate those cutting out the rock also are copper thieves down in the Los Angeles urban area. Yes indeed the warm rain storm last Friday and Saturday was a good dose of water. Drove the 189 miles to Yosemite Valley last Saturday morning gambling I might be able to frame some misty storm landscapes as the storm waned. My film came back from development so made a couple crude scans of the 4x5 transparencies. Disappointedly the 4x5 exposure of the above digital camera pic was about 2/3 stop too bright and worse the camera was moving. But the most important landscape of my 10 exposures was fine so I'm happy. You are going to need a lucky rabbits foot. Yosemite Valley is at 4k while the average snow level for winter storms is about 6k though such varies greatly. Also the bottom of the valley always seems to be less cold than the same elevation in nearby forest areas probably because of latent heat in the massive granite walls. Graphs look good. Shows most of California including the Sierra will have normal to slightly above normal temps and above normal precipitation. Good news. Given the whole Northwest is above average, suspect that means systems coming in more from the latitude of southern Oregon and then sweeping down and in across California.
