JRinGeorgia has one and we saw it during his last visit. Very light and seems quite unlikely to bend due to the bend lines in the design. Should be called the Spade of Deuces though. Hiking sticks can scratch out a slit in a fraction of the time taken in the videos. Important in certain circumstances.by mrcondron - General Discussion
I can see it now; a cuddly bear sneaks up on an less than fully attended table in one of the Pines Campgrounds and a masive cloud of pepper spray ensues as site after site takes a bead on the critter. Area hospitals fill with the wounded. Bear escapes unscathed.by mrcondron - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

These stacked up rocks are not inuksuit and in fact these rock stacks bear no resemblance to them and they also serve no purpose. They are placed by one-off visitors that stack the rocks so as to leave a mark of their presence very much like carving initials on a tree or scratching initials on painted surfaces. Don't belittle the inuksuit by comparing them to these rock piles.by mrcondron - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Not pictures but here is a link to a bit of video from the NPS: http://blog.nwf.org/2012/07/one-mans-quest-to-chronicle-a-vanishing-glacier-in-yosemite/ It has a lot of footage of Lyell. I didn't see a date but it's probaby a few years old as the glacier was still moving at the time but now it's not.by mrcondron - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Once you get over Burro you will want to stay in the canyon where you will have the Sawtooth Ridge for a view. There should be water and there are some fantastic pitching spots. Once over Mule the views degrade. Drop down ad check out the slide on the way out but before over Mule. It's all very open so no worries doing a bit of cross country. I was badly bent after the weekend and besides I knew you would do a much better job. C-o is right about camping closer to the pass where you can see the whole canyon and the Sawtooth Ridge which is one of the best sights in the park. Quotebalzaccom Love this story from Backpacker Magazine: "According to the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees, your odds of becoming a victim of violent crime in a national park are one in 708,000. In the United States overall, it’s one in 50." Be careful--especially once you get back home! Quotehegel And yes I'll be driving in from Berkeley and setting out on Friday, so a late start. To repeat the warning posted by basilbop; you have to be at the HH entrance station before 9PM as the gate to the the park entrance is closed at Camp Mather at that time and you will have to spend the night somewhere outside the park. If you do get to the HH kiosk before 9PM and get your permitby mrcondron - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotemarkwise My group and I are flying from the Midwest out to San Francisco on June 15th, and then driving in to Yosemite for some backpacking. Since we can't fly with the IsoPro fuel we'll need for my MSR PocketRocket stove, we're trying to plan out where to buy our fuel on the way. I know there may be a chance of a Walmart carrying it, but as a backup, I'm trying to cover all bases. Is itby mrcondron - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quotemartincr70 On our day doing the Tioga Road we may hike the one mile to the water and see how bad it is. From the road to the water crossing it's 0.14 miles with an elevation drop of 14'. Bear in mind that the trip to CR from HI has 6000' of elevation gain and is 20 miles round trip. Quite a day hike. From Tanaya Lake it's 1700' of elevation gain and 12 miles round trip.by mrcondron - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Shoot, if it's that much of an attractant there could be multiple bee stings as you tried to prevent the bee's from entering you due to thinking you are a hive.
