Quotelove2kwilt Looking for advice on the hikers’ bus to GP. My husband and I plan to take the bus to GP and hike back down to YV via Panorama/JMT. We’ve never taken the bus. Our trip will be mid June. Is it best to buy these tickets in advance since it’s peak season and the bus trips may sell out? QuoteHiker Dad I'm thinking about taking a small group of high school kids round trip from the Lukens Lake Trailhead to Eagle Peak this summer. The kids are all in great shape, but not necessarily hikers. Is the trail well-marked? What kind of elevation change occurs on this trail? Quotewaninggibbous Thanks! Yes, we are driving, but had hoped to leave the car in the Valley and take the bus or yarts to Tuolumne Meadows. I wonder if either of those would drop us off at Yosemite Creek? How far is that from the Cathedral Lakes TH? I'm not too worried about the snow as it would be a welcome change for me coming from the heat of PHX. I do wonder about shoes though. QuoteJustKeepWalking<rant>And may I say... I really really really dislike when people insist on postholing and screwing up the snow instead of buying or renting snowshoes. Folks, if you are going to try to walk in the snow for some distance, please get snowshoes. I agree, going over Carson Pass (open almost all year) on Hwy 88 would be a far more rewarding and scenic way to reach Yosemite Valley than taking the southern route from Lone Pine. The southern route would take approx. 6 1/2 hours of travel time, while going north would add about 2 1/2 hours more of travel time (if Monitor Pass and Big Oak Flat Road are STILL closed). Spring rains up in the high country would help facilitate the snow melt, speeding up the opening of Tioga Road and the High Sierra Camps. What won't help are cold winter snow storms in spring, which can occur too.by plawrence - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Beside storms, it also depends how warm the temps will be from now until summer. Cold temps: it won't be opening until July. Very warm temps: it could still open before the Memorial Day weekend.
