You ride the shuttle so you can hike IN Mariposa Grove. It's not a hike, it's a backpack or a hitchhike, if you're going to walk from the valley.... I'm not sure what you mean by Diving Board - you mentioned it being on Glacier Point in your first post. You can't get to Glacier Point yet. The road is closed. Glacier Point Road is closed. Half Dome cables are down. But there is plenty to do walking around the valley - ride a shuttle to Mariposa Grove, walk trails to the falls, walk to Vernal/Nevada falls... The plan will be more like - park in the Valley, get on the bus, ride to Mammoth, spend the night, get on a shuttle, get on another shuttle and get off at the trailhead. You could catch a ride with someone heading over Tioga... might be able to hook up with someone via the forum who's heading to the east side on the same schedule. The other thing you could do - get the permit for the Sunrise or Cathedral trailhead, park the car at Curry, take the hiker bus to the trailhead and hike down to Happy Isles. I do think you should do the Mist Trail at least once with the falls roaring - my prejudice isn't against the beauty of the place, but against the tourists. Even if the weather permits, the snow level may not.... remember to check before you go. Even if Tioga Pass is open you may still encounter snowdrifts across the trail. Having encountered snow along steep portions of trails before, I would encourage borrowing a GPS and taking a map/compass/GPS class, so that you can either navigate around or through any you might encounter.
